To mark our 10-year journey in celebrating fashion and art, L’OFFICIEL Malaysia hosted a one-of-a-kind anniversary event and continued to champion local creatives by shining the spotlight on multimedia artist Sharina Shahrin.

Partnering with HUAWEI, we provided her with the latest MatePad Pro and gave her artistic freedom to craft two original works based on our theme, City Lights. The result? Two abstract pieces titled Nights of Our Youth, draw from nostalgia. The paintings are visual interpretations of vibrant cityscapes, capturing the dynamic interplay of architecture, energy and people within a bustling metropolis.

Tell us more about your creative process behind “Nights of Our Youth”.
The goal was to capture the energy of a city — alive, youthful and nostalgic. I used colours, shapes and silhouettes to convey that spirit. My process was quite spontaneous, as with most of my work. I began by sketching ideas and blocking out colours based on my initial thoughts about the theme. It was a very organic and enjoyable experience.

What were your thoughts on using the HUAWEI MatePad Pro?
I loved it. The HUAWEI GoPaint app offers up to 150 brushes and multiple canvas options. As a multimedia artist who doesn’t always paint with brushes, I really appreciated the variety. Accessing so many digital tools on the HUAWEI MatePad Pro 12.2 was fantastic.

What was the most exciting or challenging part of collaborating on this project?
Honestly, it wasn’t challenging at all — the process felt natural and seamless. I was thrilled to use technology to enhance and explore my creative side, especially as I’ve delved into digital art more in recent years. With the M-Pencil, drawing was flawless, and the Tandem OLED PaperMatte display delivered true-to-life colours, allowing me to expand my creative process and discover new possibilities.

As a multimedia artist, how has incorporating new tools and technologies shaped your creative process?
Whether you’re a full-time artist or just beginning your artistic journey, digital drawing opens up endless possibilities. Instead of purchasing supplies, I can now sketch ideas directly on the tablet, making it both convenient and eco-friendly. The portability is a huge advantage too — I can create on the go without needing physical canvases.
