Jackson Wang opens up his archive in a new auction with Joopiter
Pharrell Williams' auction house, Joopiter, has curated an auction in collaboration with musician, athlete and designer Jackson Wang to celebrate personal reinvention and creativity.
Jackson Wang is no stranger to reinvention. After shifting from a career as a star athlete to a career as a cross-genre musician and soaring to fame in the Kpop boyband Got7, Wang's life has already accumulated a fascinating archive. At just 30 years old, holding an auction of items from his personal life might seem unusual, but his archive is exactly the kind of story that Joopiter, Pharrell Williams' auction house, is eager to pay tribute to.
From June 18th to June 25th, Joopiter's latest auction, Jackson Wang Metamorphosis: Athlete - Musician - Designer, will be open for global bidding and all proceeds from the auction are being donated to charity. The auction aims to follow the various career shifts and evolutions that have marked Wang's life so far, from his time as a fencing champion to his success as a solo musician and a member of Got7, and eventually as a designer for the fashion brand of his own record label, Team Wang.
Joopiter is both an auction house and content platform founded by Pharrell Williams. The company seeks to amplify the ability for people to discover new stories and history through highly curated auctions and original editorial imagery.
Wang expressed his excitement at the opportunity to hold an auction with Joopiter in a statement, saying, "I'm very grateful that I can share the highlights and important chapters of my first 30 years on earth- from sports to music to fashion...All of these items are very meaningful to me. They may appear to be very different, but they all represent the same mindset. To me, the only difference among these chapters of my life would be the skill sets, what remains the same is the emphasis on creation."
This emphasis on meaning and value being held inside of personal objects is at the heart of Joopiter's mission as an auction house. On their website, the Joopiter team explained that the ethos of the auction house is "to embrace the energy that is released when objects change hands, and to respect the value that's been created around these objects."

Wang has been a long-time supporter of Louis Vuitton by Pharell Williams, wearing many of the brand's designs on his recent Magic Man World Tour. Some of the Louis Vuitton pieces that he wore on this tour will be featured in the auction.
In the foreword to Jackson Wang Metamorphosis, Williams wrote that Wang "embodies the spirit of innovation and reinvention that JOOPITER champions. Much like myself, Jackson’s interests span across music, the arts, and design, making him a perfect fit for our community."
Besides tour looks, there will be several personal items included in the auction that span several years of Wang's life, like fencing equipment from his youth and self-designed diamond jewelry from Team Wang Design.
In L'OFFICIEL's April cover story with Wang, he noted that his passion for working across various artforms and industries all stems from the same internal creativity: "I believe I’m a creator. That’s the big umbrella, and other identities underneath it are just different skill sets. But it’s all about my personal taste from the gut." His auction with Joopiter offers the unique opportunity to see each of his various skill sets tied together in tasteful curation.
Besides objects and fashion from Wang's personal archive, the auction is also offering the chance for one winning bidder to have the experience of going behind-the-scenes for Wang's upcoming music video shoot. The auction will also feature exclusive, limited quantity Team Wang apparel intended only for Wang's inner circle.
Joopiter and Team Wang have collaborated on a special edition collection of merchandise like T-shirts, jackets and gloves to celebrate the auction, which is available for pre-order on the Joopiter website.
