The past few years have skyrocketed actor Timothée Chalamet to megafame since stealing our hearts with his Academy Award-nominated performance in Luca Guadagnino’s Call Me By Your Name. While he's kept up the momentum with critically-acclaimed films Lady Bird, Beautiful Boy, and Little Women, 2021 may very well be the year of Chalamet.

The success of his recent projects Dune and Wes Anderson’s The French Dispatch have propelled him back into the spotlight once again, as has his recent casting as the lead role in the upcoming Charlie and the Chocolate Factory prequel entitled Wonka. However, the actor has another key project in the works.

Adam McKay’s upcoming sci-fi comedy Don’t Look Up sees Chalamet star alongside what seems like every single resident of Tinseltown. The cast’s unbeatable star power includes Jennifer Lawrence, Leonardo DiCaprio, Meryl Streep, Cate Blanchett, Ariana Grande, Jonah Hill, Himesh Patel, Matthew Perry, and Kid Cudi.

With such big names tied to the project, Don’t Look Up’s production pushbacks may have actually aided in making such a starry ensemble possible. With actors like DiCaprio usually having a jam-packed schedule, the delay left the opportunity open for the Oscar-winner to join the ranks.

Making its debut on Netflix on December 24, 2021, the film features Lawrence and DiCaprio as two low-level astronomers who discover a colossal and disastrous asteroid approaching Earth. The scientists then embark on a vital expedition to warn the world of the planet’s imminent demise. Filming began this month, and DiCaprio and Lawrence have been spotted on the movie's Boston set. Other confirmed roles include Streep as the President of the United States and Hill as her son and chief of staff.

Netflix debuted the first trailer and poster on November 16, less than a month before the film is set to be released in select theaters on December 10 and on Netflix on December 24, just in time for Christmas. The new trailer shows us Lawrence and DiCaprio's characters panicking as their warnings of the planet-ending comet aren't being heard by people across the country. McKay's chaotic and satirical approach to his newest feature is sure to be an explosive way to cap off the holiday season, as the trailer wittily refers to it as the "end all event of the year."

From the looks of the trailer, Chalamet's character in the film is seen in a short clip sporting a backward cap and long hair, asking Lawrence's character, "Are you that girl on live TV who said we're all going to die?" and proceeding to take a selfie with her. As the young and highly acclaimed star has been said to be the actor of his generation, we look forward to seeing Chalamet's work in the upcoming year and beyond.
