Interview: The story of Fran Summers, the star of the Burberry Her campaign
Burberry brings on some much-needed whimsy to its latest Her campaign, this time starring Fran Summers and captured by Mario Sorrenti. This marks the British model’s fifth campaign for the brand under chief creative officer Riccardo Tisci, which sees her take flight in a series of images that celebrate the energy, confidence and effortlessness of the individual—all of which lie at the heart of the fruity floral fragrance.
Here, Summers talks about the enchanting campaign and her longstanding relationship with the fashion house.
You are the new face of the new Her fragrance campaign under Riccardo Tisci’s creative direction. How was it like working with him?
To be able to work with my idols and some of the most creative people in the industry has been an amazing experience for me. Burberry as a brand has strength and promotes individuality so I love being a part of their family.
Burberry Her embodies a free-spirited, modern woman. How do you embrace that in your own life?
I just try to stay true myself and in return, this has given me confidence and strength which I hope is reflected in my work.
Do you have a special memory from the campaign shoot that you could share?
Shooting this campaign has been one of my most memorable experiences. I get to work with my dream team alongside some of my idols who are all so kind and inspiring. Everything, from waking up at the crack of dawn to being hoisted up in the air by a crane, has also contributed to some of the best memories from the shoot.
Apart from the campaign, you shared a special connection with Burberry having walked Riccardo’s first show for S/S ’19. What do you like the most about the brand DNA?
I love the creative spirit of Burberry and the brand’s heritage, and also the way Burberry stands out on a global stage.
Tell us more about your relationship with Riccardo Tisci since you started working together for Burberry?
Riccardo believed in me and has constantly pushed me to do my best from the very first time we met. I remember being very nervous at our first meeting, but he was very supportive. He is very intuitive on set and provides so much vision and guidance. He is also very sweet. I love working with him and I appreciate him as a person as well as his creative vision.
