A triumphant 10-year celebration by Stuart Vevers for Coach Spring 2024 show
For his 10th anniversary, Stuart Vevers envisioned a one-of-a-kind takeover of the New York Public Library for an out-of-this-world collection that took our breath away.
Coach's Spring 2024 runway show, hosted inside the historic New York Public Library, was a triumphant celebration of heritage reimagined for the modern era.
And unlike the signature revival and rebirth of Coach archival pieces, this season is all about creating new icons that seamlessly melded the brand's iconic design codes with a youthful, counter-culture spirit, resulting in a captivating blend of nostalgia and contemporary style, making a fitting vision for creative director Stuart Vevers' 10th anniversary with the fashion house.
Building on the youthful interpretations seen in the previous Fall collection, Spring 2024 introduced tailored silhouettes crafted from heritage materials. Leatherware and fringed suede jackets and blazers stole the spotlight, exuding a love-worn beauty reminiscent of cherished vintage pieces. Coach's commitment to sustainability shone through with Coach's (Re)Loved program, which emphasized circular craft and waste reduction.
Repurposed leatherware and denim, sourced from deadstock and pre-loved pieces, breathed new life into fashion sustainability. One of the highlights was the introduction of slip dresses crafted from leftover lace and fabric from previous Coach productions, which are now dressed in colourful marigold motifs to give new life to the design.
The collection also ventured into raw-cut slip dresses and hand-darned knit dresses, embracing imperfections as artistry. Collegiate-inspired t-shirts and sweatsuits featuring the iconic Donohue's Steakhouse emblem added a sporty flair to the lineup. Coach's leather goods and footwear offered a delightful contrast, with patent sneakers and jelly flats injecting a playful spirit.
Stuart also didn't shy away from experimenting with everyday bag silhouettes, introducing leather versions of bowling bags and oversized basket totes, alongside new quilted iterations of the iconic Coach Tabby bag.
Reflecting on the collection, he noted, "Spring is a tribute to the way today's generation is writing their own story through fashion." The New York Public Library provided the perfect backdrop for this narrative, juxtaposing the youthful exuberance of the collection against its ornate surroundings.
