The Tory Burch Fall/Winter 2025 collection was a masterclass in reinvention—an audacious reimagining of American sportswear, where every piece carried a whisper of history, a lived-in elegance that made it feel distinctly personal. True to her signature Twisted American Sportswear ethos, Burch subverted tradition, transforming wardrobe staples into unexpected objects of desire.
Silhouettes played with structure and fluidity: banker shirts were redefined with exaggerated, flared cuffs, cardigans twisted and slit before being pinned at the shoulder, while shirt dresses spiralled around the body in an entirely new embrace. Textures heightened the intrigue—crumpled velvet threaded with metallic glimmers, raw-edged tweed, brushed alpaca, and an ethereal faux fleece crafted from perforated wool. Even the most familiar pieces, from sweatshirts to track pants, took on a newfound opulence in sumptuous Japanese jerseys.
Accessories followed suit, striking a delicate balance between softness and form. Supple leather bags—crafted from materials traditionally reserved for footwear—added a tactile depth, while the iconic Eleanor Bag was deconstructed in plush, quilted leather. Footwear challenged convention with exaggerated proportions: razor-sharp pointed monk shoes, sculptural slingback sandals that reimagined the Twisted Pump, and riding boots that exuded modern equestrian chic. Jewellery evoked a distinctly ’70s glamour—shoulder-grazing chains, watch-inspired bracelets, and oversized crystal brooches that punctuated the collection with a bold, sculptural allure.
Presented against the stark modernity of the Museum of Modern Art, the show unfolded to a hypnotic soundtrack—a fusion of Charlotte Adigéry and Bolis Pupul’s avant-garde beats, the raw experimentalism of Throbbing Gristle, and the shimmering disco of Donna Summer. It was a collection both nostalgic and fiercely contemporary, where classicism was unravelled and redefined through a subversive, exquisitely refined lens.
