Bottega Veneta names Matthieu Blazy as new creative director
Shortly after announcing Daniel Lee's departure, the brand has found its new voice in this Parisian designer.
Effective immediately, Matthieu Blazy is the new creative director of Bottega Veneta. After the sudden departure of Daniel Lee last week, the brand has been quick in opening a new chapter, both as a business and an artistic entity. Formerly the Ready-To-Wear Design Director, Blazy will now serve as the driving force behind Bottega's creative vision.
“Matthieu Blazy is an extraordinarily talented individual, whom I am proud and excited to entrust with the creative helm of our luxury House," said CEO Leo Rongone. "Bottega Veneta has always been equated with signature craftsmanship and distinctive creativity. Matthieu’s appointment will further enhance the modern relevance of our brand and accelerate our growth, while preserving the values that are at the core of Bottega Veneta.”
Blazy, a Parisian graduate of La Cambre in Brussels, began his fashion career at Raf Simons, before heading over to Maison Margiela to design the "Artisanal" line and ready-to-wear show. In 2014, Blazy signed on as Senior Designer at Celine before leaving to work under Simons again at Calvin Klein from 2016 to 2019. Blazy joined Bottega Veneta in 2020, perhaps not envisioning that in a year's time he would be receiving such a large promotion.
François-Henri Pinault, Chairman & CEO of Kering, the brand's parent company, commented on Blazy's new role, saying, “The very solid foundations, specific codes and unique identity of Bottega Veneta enable us to nurture great ambitions for the future of this luxury House. I am confident that Matthieu Blazy’s wealth of experience and broad cultural background will allow him to bring his creative impetus to the task of carrying on the legacy of Bottega Veneta."
Blazy will present his first collection for Bottega Veneta in February 2022.
