Fashion and beauty brands comes in full support of Black Lives Matter Movement
This past weekend we saw an uproar in response to the senseless deaths of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and Ahmaud Arbery at the hands of the police. These cases are sadly the most recent in an over 400-year history of injustice against African Americans.
Across the world, we are seeing people collectively come together to say “enough is enough” and protest the unjust and systemic racism in the United States.
It is not only up to the Black community to educate a country, nor is it just up to individuals to fight the fight. Consumers are demanding that businesses, especially those who have profited off of black culture for decades, speak up and take action. Both major companies and emerging brands are beginning to take to their social platforms to demonstrate solidarity with those on the frontlines.
Marc Jacobs, for one, showed support to protestors by posting a photo of the brand's Los Angeles boutique, which was defaced after a riot. He wrote: “A life cannot be replaced. Black Lives Matter.”
Beyond casting black models for campaigns and runways, the fashion industry still has a long way to go. At this moment, the industry has the opportunity to not only show Black culture, but to educate, to hire, and to get further involved. We will all stand taller when we all stand together. Below are those brands who are taking a stance against injustice by speaking up and donating to essential organizations supporting the Black Lives Matter movement.
Now it is up to shoppers to choose what brands are worthy of their hard-earned dollars.

The collective brands of Gap Inc. have made a $250,000 donation to NAACP and EmbraceRace, supporting to raise a brave new generation by talking to youth about racism.
Levi’s is donating $100,000 to their longstanding partner, the ACLU. Along with the donation, they are making a grant of $100,000 to Live Free USA, a faith-based organization on the front lines of social justice issues.
Dior will be matching all employee contributions to Black Lives Matter, NAACP, and Dream Defenders in order to do their part in standing in solidarity with injustice in the Black community.
The British fashion brand will be making donations to Belly Mujinga’s memorial fund, local bail funds in the US, and to Color of Change, who campaign for racial justice throughout America.
Racism is not just an American problem, and British brand Burberry announced that it would be donating an undisclosed sum to Black Lives Matter.
5-year-old cult-favorite accessories label Staud announced that it has made a $10,000 donation to Color of Change. The designers have also said that 10% of sales for this month will also be donated to the non-profit.
The Swedish giant H&M Group (which also owns & Other Stories and Cos) promised to donate $500,000 across the NAACP, the ACLU and Color of Change.
Fashion designer Asai will be producing the viral and iconic Rihanna dress exclusively, and donating 100% of proceeds to Black Lives Matter. Rihanna and the designer are the only ones who currently have it.
The brand will be donating $100,000 donation to the NAACP, Black Visions Collective, and other charitable causes combating racial injustice. Rent The Runway has also promised to allocate $1 million to support Black designers through wholesale, manufacturing, design, data, mentorship, and financial support.
The California-based, female-founded, inclusive athleisure brand has announced they are donating $25,000 to the ACLU as well as focus their social media for the unforeseen future to support the black community and share resources.
The UK-based luxury loungewear brand will be donating an undisclosed amount to the Know Your Rights Camp to support protestors that may need legal resources.
The Swiss sports shoe company has decided to stand in solidarity against the injustices that hold Black people back by making a donation to Color of Change.
The premium denim label will be donating 100% of proceeds from their e-commerce sales of face mask to Black Lives Matter and Color of Change.
The Copenhagen brand announced that they will be donating $100,000 to various organizations against police brutality including; the ACLU, NAACP, and Black Lives Matter.
Calvin Klein will be making a donation to causes that support the fight against racial and social injustice, including NAACP Legal Defense & Education Fund and the ACLU.
Savage X Fenty plans to donate to The Bail Project, an organization that provides free bail for those who cannot afford to pay it, and Black Lives Matter movement. The initiative is in partnership with founder Rihanna’s charity, the Clara Lionel Foundation.
Stella McCartney, who is known for her activism in environmental issues, will be donating to the NAACP Legal Defense and Education Fund to support racial justice in Minnesota, New York, and across America.
The women’s ready-to-wear brand inspired by the designer’s multicultural background is donating an undisclosed amount to Black Visions Collective, the NAACP's Legal Defense and Education Fund, the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) and the George Floyd Memorial Fund.

American cosmetics company Maybelline has pledged to donate a currently undisclosed sum to the NAACP.
Glossier donated $500,000 across Black Lives Matter, The NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, The Equal Justice Initiative, The Marsha P Johnson Institute, and We The Protestors to combat racial injustice.

To support those in the fight, Biossance is pledging $100,000 to the ACLU, Minnesota Freedom Fund, Color of Change, and Black Lives Matter.
Clean beauty front-runner, Josie Maran Cosmetics announced a has donated $50,000 to The Loveland Foundation as well as committing to Aurora James' #15PercentPledge by having a minimum of 15% of all future talent they feature to be from the Black community.
Designer, Dani has pledged, “This is our promise. Our promise to be better, do better and continue to stand for equality. We stand together”. 100% of proceeds will go to Black Lives Matter, NAACP Legal Defense Fund, and Black Visions Collective.
