#LOFFTalk with Yoon Chan-young, Coach’s first ever ambassador for Korea
The breakout star from Netflix’s All of Us Are Dead shares more about his chemistry with Coach, his style identity, and his upcoming projects.
2022 is going to be Yoon Chan-young’s year. The breakout star from Netflix’s All of Us Are Dead gains the recognition he deserves with his delicate portrayal of Cheong-san, a high school student with a soft side, who never hesitates to step up for his friend.
His upcoming projects include Hope and Dope Season 2, airing this May, and Delivery Man, in which he will play a taxi driver who grants the last wishes of ghosts.
Adding to his resume, Chan-young is named South Korea’s first Coach ambassador. Over a Zoom call, we caught up with Chan-young as he shared more about his chemistry with Coach, his style identity, and his upcoming projects.
ON JOINING COACH
I am very proud to become the brand ambassador of Coach, a global brand with such a long heritage. I’ve always loved Coach, and I’m very excited to share its designs and values.
“Courage to be real” is at the heart of Coach’s vison, it speaks a lot to me as I always believe in the strength that comes from being our true self. At Coach, you can always see a modern, playful take on style and I think it’s the synergy of heritage and modernity that speaks to our generation. You can find the items that reflect the current trend but there’s also no lack of timeless classics.
As an ambassador, I think I can do a good job bringing Coach and our generation closer to each other by showing the ways to express individuality through different styles and looks. [pauses] Don’t you think this looks great on me? [laughs and shows off his Coach sweater.]
ON HIS STYLE CODE
You can see me in oversized looks a lot cause comfy outfits are always my go-to. I’m into neat and clean cutting too, and I like pieces that give off a cute charm as first sight - Coach really plays well with my personal style.
There is this leather baseball jacket from two seasons ago that I really like it. I live in it throughout the whole winter and into the early spring. While for this season, my favourite piece is this T-shirt with a bunny on it. It is so cute and I thought “This is for me!” It’s even made of organic cotton!
I think the more you play with different styles, the more you can understand yourself. Like how Coach always encourages us to “wonder what-if”, unleash our curiosity to always try out something new and don’t be shy to discover our different sides.
ON HIS ICONS AND INSPIRATIONS
Kim Soo-hyun is really my favourite actor. He gives off a down-to-earth vibe, and at the same time, an air of urban sophistication through his wide spectrum of characters.
He never failed to deliver this very raw magnetism. He’s been a role model since I was young. Son Heung-min is also someone who I’ve been looking up to. He has an explosive energy and watching him on the field inspires me to keep going. I really want to thank him for that.
On the Coach family
The people at Coach told me that we are now one family. Working with them feels like home. It was my birthday not long ago and received a handwritten letter from Coach along with a cardigan for my mom. It’s so heartwarming and sweet of Coach to think of my mom who went through pain to bring me to this world.
Coach also gifted me a leather backpack when I wrapped up the filming of All of Us Are Dead. I always have this dream of owning a leather backpack when I become a college student, you know, carrying a leather bag with me on my way to school. [laughs] And now I am able to live my dream thanks to my Coach family!
On his upcoming projects
Hope or Dope Season 2 is airing soon this May and it will be quite different from Season 1 when it comes to the story and mood. It will be great if you’ve watched the previous season but I’m sure you can enjoy this upcoming season regardless.
I will also be playing a taxi driver in Delivery Man, which is a complete package of speed, thriller and romance, so please look forward to it!
