Exclusive: aespa on their love for Chopard, Whiplash comeback and more

It’s been more than 2 years for aespa as the global ambassador of Chopard. How has the experience been so far?

WINTER: As Chopard’s global ambassador, we have been thrilled to showcase their creations including the Ice Cube jewellery collection and the Alpine Eagle watches across different countries. Among all the amazing experiences, the most memorable and meaningful moment was attending the Cannes Film Festival last year, wearing Chopard’s stunning Haute Joaillerie creations from the Red Carpet collection.

Among the many projects and appearances, you have done with Chopard, what is the most memorable experience?

NING NING: Walking the red carpet at Cannes after being invited by Caroline Scheufele, co-president of Chopard is an unforgettable memory. Sharing the moment with remarkable individuals from various fields made it even more special. Personally, it was a truly meaningful and cherished experience.

Both Chopard and aespa have always celebrated individuality and innovation in their respective fields. How important is it for you to stay true to your own identity and boldly express yourself?

KARINA: As someone whose profession involves self-expression, I think it’s incredibly important to showcase one’s identity. For an artist, being confident in expressing oneself is what creates a unique and special personality.

You have just recently made a comeback with your fifth mini album “Whiplash” and it has even placed on one of the top spots for the Billboard World Albums Chart. What is your favourite song within the album?

WINTER: Flights, Not Feelings. It’s a song that always lifts my spirits whenever I listen to it.

NING NING: I’d pick Whiplash. It has many dance points that I love, and it’s upbeat — perfect for dancing and enjoying the moment. Definitely my kind of song.

GISELLE: Flights, Not Feelings is my favourite. It’s diverse and easy to listen to, and I believe the overall quality of the track is outstanding. The members all love it too!

KARINA: I also love Flights, Not Feelings, but today I’d like to recommend Flowers. It’s a beautiful track that expresses the emotions of love through flowers and captures aespa’s R&B sensibility.

As a group, what do you think is aespa’s greatest achievement since debut?

GISELLE: I’m grateful that all of us continue to maintain the mindset of working hard to achieve great results. I’m also sincerely thankful that we’ve been able to stay healthy and perform without any major injuries so far.

As we all know, Chopard has always been a champion of sustainability. How does that resonate with you on a personal level?

WINTER: I believe communication and love for the next generation are the most crucial aspects of sustainability. I truly value Chopard’s dedication to its Journey to Sustainable Luxury. Wearing pieces like the Ice Cube or Happy Hearts collections not only makes me feel good but also deeply connected to their meaningful vision for sustainability. Moreover, as an artist, I feel proud to share messages of connection and love through music, which fuels my passion and drive in all that I do.

Which is your favourite Chopard collection?

WINTER: The Ice Cube Collection. It’s chic and sophisticated, and it feels like the perfect match for my name, Winter!

NING NING: I’d also say the Ice Cube Collection. I still vividly remember wearing the beautiful Ice Cube earrings and rings during a photoshoot — they were completely my style.

KARINA: The Happy Hearts Collection. Its heart-shaped designs make it both charming and ideal for everyday wear.

GISELLE: I also love the Happy Hearts Collection. The designs are so lovely, and it’s one of my personal favourites.

What does jewellery mean to you as an individual?

NING NING: I think jewellery elevates any fashion look. Wearing jewellery naturally boosts my confidence for the day.

Since the holiday season is approaching, what Chopard jewellery piece do you think would be perfect as a gift?

GISELLE: I’d go with rings from the Ice Cube Collection and Alpine Eagle watches. The collection’s brilliant tones of white, rose and yellow ethical gold with diamonds are perfect for creating a sparkling holiday season.

As we wrap up the year 2024, what is your goal for 2025?

KARINA: 2024 was such a fun year, and I hope 2025 will be filled with even more exciting music and only good things!
