The Miss Dior chairs share a passion for simplicity.

At Salone del Mobile 2022, Dior Maison invited prolific inventor Philippe Starck to put his stamp on the iconic Medallion chair.

Dating back to the late 18th century, the Louis XVI Medallion chair has been associated with Dior since 1947, where decorator Victor Grandpierre selected it for Monsieur Dior’s shows at 30 Avenue Montaigne.

While Dior has commissioned 17 international designers and artists to reinterpret the Medallion chair last year, this year’s exhibition focuses solely on Starck alone, a testament to the designer’s singular stature and renown.

“Some have searched all their lives for the little black dress, I have always dreamed of the perfect little chair. This icon of perfection clearly exists in our collective unconscious, in the form of the Louis XVI Medallion chair and its magic oval, which is one of the symbols of the House of Dior. Everything has always brought me back to this chair,” said Starck.

Christened as Miss Dior, Starck’s Medallion chairs are expressed through three models: a few have twin armrests, others have none and the more idiosyncratic ones have just one.

While some are smooth and gleaming, others have been given a satinated finish, but all are stripped down to the basics with clean lines marked by a modernity exalted by the lightness of aluminum—chosen for its nobility and durability.

The Miss Dior chairs will also be on display in selected Dior boutiques later this year and available to order at all Dior addresses.
