I&rsquo;ve been skipping foundation.

What does a self-care day look like to you? To me, it can be a slow day where I unapologetically make time to do nothing. Or, conversely, a hashtag-productive version in which I start the day with a reformer class, do grocery shopping, followed by a catch-up at a caf&eacute;, and indulge in a facial treatment to wrap the day. So, you can imagine how excited I was to discover the newly opened Freia Aesthetics at The Five.
In the neighbourhood where urban convenience meets wellness living, Freia Aesthetic has found its first Malaysian home after almost a decade of esteemed clinical facial service in Singapore. &ldquo;Clinical facials effectively address various skin concerns, such as acne, rosacea, fine lines and scarring, using technologies like ultrasound, vortex suction and LED,&rdquo; explained Serene Seah-Ma, the co-founder of Freia Aesthetic and the curator behind the facials. &ldquo;With our roots in medical aesthetics, we believe in achieving the best results through the synergy of technology, treatments and products rather than relying on any single element.&rdquo;

Put simply, at Freia, you can expect both relaxation and real results. Upon entering, I was enveloped with a soft glow of warm lighting and a calming scent that instantly lifted my mood &mdash; this place is anything but your regular aesthetic clinic. Wainscoting, tropical foliage wallpaper and Toile de Jouy motif run through the entire sanctuary from the lounge area to treatment rooms equipped with state-of-the-art machines carefully selected by Freia. &ldquo;From the LDM to Hydrafaical and Intraceuticals Oxygen Infusion, we&rsquo;re committed to using machines from the original manufacturers of the technology,&rdquo; Serene shared. &ldquo;Our line-up of machines complement one another, each fitting seamlessly into our spectrum of personalised treatment to ensure a holistic repertoire&nbsp;for our clients.&rdquo;

Every treatment at Freia commences with a detailed skin analysis using the Visia Skin Analysis System. It captures the live image of the skin from every angle, providing both quantitative data and visual assessment of spots, wrinkles, texture, pores, UV spots, brown spots, red areas and porphyrins. After understanding my skin&rsquo;s condition and concerns, my therapist Selina recommended The Ultimate Hydra-O2 Experience, an award-winning Hydraceuticals solution that combines two of Freia&rsquo;s signature treatments. Essentially, it incorporates the Hydrafacial and oxygen infusion to deep cleanse, extract, hydrate and rejuvenate for clearer and smoother glowing skin.&nbsp;
As soon as both my mind and skin were prepped with a calming breathing practice and deep cleansing, we moved on to the fun part: the Hydrafacial. Selina went over my face with a vortex wand and the Activ-4 serum gently breaks down dead skin cells, and softens sebum and impurities to aid in extraction. For those with deep and stubborn congestion (yes, that&rsquo;s me), Selina will perform a hands-on extraction on affected areas before proceeding to the next step where a soothing yet potent salicylic formula further suctions the gunk out of my pores. It was like a little vacuum gliding over my skin, and my skin felt immediately refreshed after getting rid of all the debris that had been weighing it down.

Then came another highlight, the oxygen jet. This elixir, packed with skin-loving nutrients, antioxidants and hyaluronic acid, was misted all over my face so softly for a rejuvenated glow. There was a subtle pressure yet not a hint of discomfort, instead, it felt like tender caresses on the skin. Selina also assured me this infusion is just right for sensitive skin like mine as it calms and soothes redness. When skin is hydrated and free from irritation, it&rsquo;s naturally plumper, smoother and softer with more radiance. At the finishing stage, a relaxing face and shoulder massage was followed by a 15-minute Casmara mask said to intensely hydrate and lift the skin. Selina&rsquo;s skilful massage was so relaxing that inevitably, I drifted into a brief nap during the mask application. Waking up, my skin felt stress-free.
When I looked closely at my skin in the mirror, I was surprised to see there was no trace of redness or swelling, even after the intense deep cleansing. The pesky blackheads and bumps were completely gone. But what sent me over the moon was the transformation in tone and texture over the next few days. My pores have never been less visible and the usual dullness was exchanged for a supple and even complexion with a healthy glow. Throughout the day, I have to resist the urge to touch my skin which has become incredibly soft. One month has passed since my Hydra-O2 treatment, and I&rsquo;m delighted to report that I&rsquo;ve been skipping foundation (only blush for warmth) to date!
