The thought of getting a perm had been lingering in my mind&nbsp;for the longest time, and it wasn&rsquo;t the easiest decision to make&nbsp;for someone with commitment issues. The clash between&nbsp;having dreamy waves and maintaining healthy hair left me in&nbsp;a quandary. However, it wasn&rsquo;t until I stumbled upon <a href="https://www.instagram.com/aube_hair_bangsar/?hl=en">AUBE</a>,&nbsp;a salon that seemed to promise the best of both worlds.&nbsp;Intrigued by my friends&rsquo; glowing reviews about stylist Steve&nbsp;Lee&rsquo;s (<a href="https://www.instagram.com/aube__stevelee/?hl=en">@aube__stevelee</a>) expertise in creating texture, I made my way to AUBE&nbsp;with a mixture of excitement and nerves.

Situated in the neighbourhood of Bangsar, AUBE offers a slice&nbsp;of an urban oasis, echoing its headquarters in Tokyo. Stepping&nbsp;inside, I knew that I was in for a tranquil experience. My&nbsp;makeover began with a consultation, telling Steve the style I was&nbsp;looking for &mdash; soft, wavy curls with effortless French girl hair.&nbsp;I also expressed concern about its compatibility with my thick&nbsp;layered hair. After taking time to understand my hair goals&nbsp;and condition, Steve briefed me on what I could expect and&nbsp;reassured me of the curl size that would work with the layers. My hair was washed and trimmed before the perm. Getting rid of the&nbsp;excess length and split ends is essential for a good shape that endures,&nbsp;according to Steve. He explained that a digital perm (also known&nbsp;as &ldquo;hot perm&rdquo;) was the way to achieve the desired soft and naturallooking&nbsp;waves. The entire process revolved around two actions: first,&nbsp;the softening of the hair texture, followed by the neutralisation of the&nbsp;curls. Throughout the perming process that involved both chemical&nbsp;and heat, I was surprised by the total comfort.

Before unveiling the transformation, Steve pampered my&nbsp;mane with a Milbon treatment for intense moisture. &ldquo;One of&nbsp;the most common misconceptions about perms is that it&rsquo;s lowmaintenance,&rdquo;&nbsp;shared Steve. In reality, chemically treated hair&nbsp;could use some regular treatments because &ldquo;losing moisture is&nbsp;part of the deal, and restoring hair health and shine is vital for&nbsp;the long run.&rdquo; As he dried my hair using Dyson&rsquo;s Supersonic with diffuser,&nbsp;Steve thoughtfully walked me through how to take care of and&nbsp;style my waves daily. &ldquo;Go for a wide-tooth comb to detangle,&rdquo;&nbsp;he said, recommending products that hydrate and hold the&nbsp;curl. &ldquo;If you&rsquo;re feeling more defined and bouncy curls, cup&nbsp;the ends with the diffuser, or you can just gently move the&nbsp;dryer around in circular motion for more natural waves,&rdquo; Steve&nbsp;added. Air-drying is an option too! Now, looking back at this past week since I took the plunge&nbsp;and got the perm, I&rsquo;m totally vibing with this French girl inspired&nbsp;&ldquo;I-woke-up-like-this&rdquo; hair. The curls add volume and&nbsp;movement to my hair, waving goodbye to its dull thickness. I&nbsp;would say it does take some effort to look effortless, such as a&nbsp;healthy dose of moisturising cream to keep the curls happy and&nbsp;some blow-drying know-how for an undone finish. My hair&nbsp;has been receiving affection and compliments, giving me a&nbsp;quiet confidence boost which has made the commitment truly&nbsp;worthwhile. My only regret? Not discovering AUBE&rsquo;s perm&nbsp;magic sooner.
