We caught up with the creative force behind it all, Belle Annuar, to talk about curating a collection that’s as fun as it is thoughtful.
Can you take us behind the scenes of the Lubna 2025 Raya collection? How did it all come together—from the first spark of inspiration to fabric choices, colours, and final silhouettes?
For the Lubna Romantic Rebels collection, we wanted to redefine romanticism with a fresh, youthful twist. It was all about blending elegance with a playful rebellious streak—something that feels dreamy yet modern. We focused on lush, whimsical fabrics to create those ethereal silhouettes, while the colour palette played a big role in shaping the mood. Think soft pastels for romance, bold accents for attitude, and a hint of metallic for that extra edge. When it came to the cuts, we leaned into feminine, figure-flattering shapes but with unconventional details to keep things exciting.
Malaysia’s fashion scene is constantly evolving. How does your brand stay ahead of the curve?
It’s all about understanding the cultural pulse—keeping a close eye on trends, consumer behaviour, and the way people connect with fashion today. At Lubna, we love playing with contrasts, like classic silhouettes infused with modern cuts and playful details. The Romantic Rebels collection is a great example of that, as it reimagines romance through a younger, bolder lens. And with the launch of our Cat Collection for Raya 2025, we’re embracing niche markets too—because let’s be real, pet lovers consider their cats part of the family!
What was on your playlist while working on this collection?
Strawberry by Sabrina Song was definitely on repeat! It has that dreamy, introspective vibe that fits perfectly with the Romantic Rebels theme—youthful nostalgia meets emotional depth. I can totally imagine it setting the mood while designing those twirl-worthy tulle skirts and intricate lace details.
In today’s world, what does the new Raya collection mean to you? And if you had to pick a favourite look, which would it be?
This Raya collection is more than just festive wear—it’s about togetherness. It celebrates tradition while embracing modernity, and this year, it even expands the idea of family to include our beloved pets. My personal favourite? The Khayla Kebaya! It was the first design I envisioned when I started working on this collection, so it holds a special place in my heart.
How do you see Malaysia’s fashion industry evolving?
I’ve been noticing a beautiful fusion of styles—Malay, Chinese, Indian, and Western influences coming together in fresh, innovative ways. This multicultural mix is creating more inclusive, diverse collections that truly reflect Malaysia’s identity.
What excites you most about fashion right now?
The creative freedom! Fashion today is more than just clothing—it’s about storytelling, sustainability, and embracing diversity. I love how the industry is pushing boundaries and making us rethink what style really means in today’s world.
