Onitsuka Tiger sets sail with Spring/Summer 2021 collection

“THE SAILING KIT” features pieces of washer-finish fabric sewn together with zig-zag stitching to represent the sails of the sailing ship.

“THE CLEAN LINES” includes a resilient yet supple nylon twill piece that is shiny to touch, and which gives off a rich impression.

“The VINTAGE NOW” takes inspiration from vintage products of the past by retaining its sporty elements and fusing them with dresses, tops and skirts for daily use.

“THE WORKING PROGRESS” uses soft beige and white hues as a base while piping and tiered designs are added to modify the workwear into the collection pieces.

The cuts and details for every product are inspired by the sails of a sailing ship moving on the water, propelled by the wind. This ethos is complemented by a vibrant colour palette of bright hues like orange and sax blue as well as vintage shades such as burgundy and turquoise.

The same seafaring motif can also be found in its latest footwear without completely disregarding the archival elements from Onitsuka Tiger’s sporty past. Among them are the Acromount, a model that takes on an archival ’70s shape in mixed fabric and leather, and the Deintigre MX, an updated version of the chunky Deintigre from the Autumn/Winter 2020 collection.

The star product here, however, is the TAI-CHI-REB™ Sock MT. The sock sneaker has the Onitsuka Tiger Stripes sewn to the upper, making it feel like it is one with the foot and at the same time, employing the slim impression form of tai chi shoes. In addition to that, the shoes are incorporated with a heel-up type innersole thus making them both a comfortable and beautiful silhouette to be worn.
