One of the world's most celebrated cities for its vibrant arts and culture scene, Hong Kong is diving deep into celebrating the arts this March 2024.

Parked under the Hong Kong Culture, Sports and Tourism Bureau umbrella, "Art March 2024" is an initiative created to highlight a month-long worth of special activations, art installations and events to showcase the vibrancy of the art industry in Hong Kong, where local residents and international tourists alike can immerse in unique cultural experiences.

From the new teamLab installation at Victoria Harbour to the annual Art Basel and the ComplexCon Hong Kong 2024, we round some of the best activities you can participate this month in Hong Kong.

ART BASEL HONG KONG 2024

An annual showcase frequented by thousands every year, Art Basel Hong Kong is back this year at the Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre in Wan Chai, where they will host numerous art galleries and artists to showcase their work to buyers, enthusiasts and industry experts.

Along with the main exhibition, Art Basel Hong Kong will also organise a long list of on-site and off-site programmes including an offsite large-scale installation at Pacific Place, special film screenings curated by multi-media artist and film producer Li Zhenhua and public talk programmes with industry experts.

TEAMLAB: CONTINUOUS

Hong Kong is gearing up for another spectacular art event as "teamLab: Continuous" makes its way to Victoria Harbour. Starting on 25th March 2024, the world-famous art team, teamLab, known for their digital light installations, will be presenting an exhibition called "teamLab: Continuous" at Tamar Park and the Central and Western District Promenade (Central Section).

Hundreds of colourful luminous installations will continuously change colours and sounds as visitors interact with them.

COMPLEXCON HONG KONG

Between 22nd to 24th March 2024, the pop-culture world fair ComplexCon will be hosting its first Asia Edition, marking the first to be hosted outside of the USA.

The three-day event will highlight the famed Complex Marketplace, where you can find more than 200 brands and artists showcasing a blend of fashion, food and art experiences to its visitors, and the music concert where the headliners including American rapper 21 Savage; AOMG's South Korean artists including Loco, Gray and Simon Dominic; and 3 Cornerz (Edison Chen, MC Yan, and Chef).

ART CENTRAL HONG KONG

Known as a platform to showcase the next generation of talent from Asia’s most innovative galleries alongside distinguished artists from around the world, Art Central is set to take place in Central Harbourfront this 28th to 31st March 2024.

The upcoming edition will be staged in an architect-designed, purpose-built structure overlooking Victoria Harbour, conveniently situated in the heart of the city’s business district within walking distance of Art Basel at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre and a short ferry ride to M+ and Palace Museum Hong Kong.

M+ FACADE

Co-commissioned by Art Basel and M+, and presented by UBS, this year’s artwork will be a site-specific ‘architectural film’, titled Sparrow on the Sea, by artist and filmmaker Yang Fudong. Shot in Hong Kong, the black-and-white film weaves together scenes from seaside villages and nocturnal city streets. 

Yang Fudong’s new video work with sound will also be screened at M+ Cinema, followed by an in-person interview with the artist.

HONG KONG INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL

An annual affair hosted to promote the film industry, this year's Hong Kong International Film Festival is set to take place between 28th March to 8th April 2024, where visitors can watch over 200 films from over 60 different countries at various locations in Hong Kong.

This year's highlights include All Shall Be Well (HK), All The Long Nights (Japan), Exhuma (South Korea) and Dear Jassi (India).

WESTK FUNFEST

Between 16th March to 7th April 2024, you can now join the WestK Funfest, a new inclusive, participatory performing arts festival by West Kowloon, taking place at indoor and outdoor spaces around the Art Park, Freespace and the Xiqu Centre.

Highlights include Ephemeral by Atelier Sisu (an award-winning, large-scale immersive art installation along the Waterfront Promenade), interactive multimedia children’s theatre ZOOOM, hands-on workshops and more.

TAI KWUN CONTEMPORARY ARTISTS' NIGHT

The first annual Artists' Night hosted by Tai Kwun Contemporary, the night will see the celebration of two art exhibitions "Performing Society: The Violence of Gender" and "Contagious Cities: Far Away, Too Close".

In addition to the exhibitions, the evening will present special music performances by David Boring, Kritbangkok & Yen Tech b2b, and Fotanlaiki & Boys’ Choir along with new art installations by Hong Kong artists Angela Su and Leelee Chan.
