COS and Studio Swine brings New Spring to Shanghai
One of COS's signature projects this 2018, the global touring installation "New Spring" has found home in Shanghai between 20th to 28th October.
The third iteration of New Spring, created by Studio Swine, was hosted at the Changning Bell Tower, featuring an interactive blossoming sculpture that released mist-filled bubbles, mirroring a willow tree in the Chinese Garden.
First launched at Milan's Salone del Mobile 2017, the magnificent installation travelled to Design Miami before being reborn in the heart of Shanghai.
And within each city, the New Spring installation took a slightly different form, where "in Milan, it took on an Italian feeling of fountains, classical arches and chandeliers. In Miami it was like the mangrove swamps and the art deco of South Beach."
On the Shanghai installation, Studio Swine says, "In Shanghai, New Spring takes on the character of the city, it becomes the willow tree in the Chinese garden, the glamour of art deco of the Bund. The bubbles are reminiscent of magnolia flowers, pearls or small descending full moons."
