First Impression: A quick look at the new Samsung Z Flip 6
Back with a creaseless look, AI technology and a whooping 50-megapixel camera, the Samsung Z Flip 6 is the new drip for trendsetters everywhere.
One of the leading manufacturers in the flip and fold smartphone categories, Samsung makes a major comeback with the Z Flip series, introducing the powerful and sleek Samsung Z Flip 6.
Over the past week, we've seen this new tech companion all over social media revolving around the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, where Samsung is the main tech sponsor for the event, presenting each participating athlete with the Samsung Z Flip 6 (albeit theirs are special Olympic variations).
And finally, team L'Officiel has gotten our hands on one of these coveted smartphones to test out how well this device fare compared to its predecessors.
On top of our list of things to look out for in the Samsung Z Flip 6 is definitely the "crease" on the fold and we are happy to discover that the new model now sports a crease-free screen! Compared to its previous models, you can barely see any form of crease on the joints of the Z Flip 6 and it is enhanced with sturdier materials to make for a more reliable and stronger design.
With a "Dual Rail Hinge" made with enhanced armour aluminium and designed to withstand intense pressure and sharp objects, this new smartphone boasts a luxurious body with four colours - Blue, Yellow, Silver Shadow and Mint.
Like every other Samsung flagship smartphone, there are also additional online-exclusive colours for your shopping delight - Crafted Black, White and Peach.
One of the most exciting things we found for the Z Flip 6 is the new and improved camera that is now catching up to Samsung's flagship Galaxy S24 series. Right now, the Z Flip 6 features an impressive 50-megapixel main camera, complemented by a 12MP ultrawide lens and a 10MP front-facing camera.
The main camera excels in capturing images, effectively handling various lighting conditions while delivering detailed and color-balanced photos. It includes a 2x in-sensor zoom that performs well in bright light, along with up to 10x digital zoom for added flexibility.
While shooting full-size 50MP images yields sharp results in bright conditions, users may find the 12MP default mode more effective in most situations. The ultrawide camera is perfect for capturing group shots and landscapes. All in all, we are more than happy to welcome the new upgrade to this new sleek smartphone.
Additionally, the Z Flip introduces Galaxy AI, which brings features similar to those found in the Galaxy S24 series, such as voice transcription, translation, and note summarization tools. Users can also benefit from quick message reply assistance and proofing capabilities. The phone also integrates Google’s Gemini AI chatbot that will enhance the signature "Circle to Search" function.
One noteworthy feature (and our favourite) is the interpreter mode, which displays translated text on the cover screen, allowing the device to be positioned for live conversation translations.
Among the most innovative tools is the photo assist feature within the gallery app. This allows users to transform rough sketches into scaled, photorealistic objects within images. With some experimentation, this tool can produce impressive visuals that appear authentic despite originating from simple finger doodles, adding a playful and creative aspect to photo editing.
Wrapping up our first impression, we take a look at the hardware of the phone, which highlights an upgraded battery power, from 3,700 mAh to 4,000 mAh. A decent increase in battery life made to facilitate the new features of the phone, be it camera or the Galaxy AI.
It is also powered by the identical Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor found in the S24 Ultra, featuring 12GB of RAM and a minimum storage option of 256GB, ample for most users. This combination makes it one of the fastest Android smartphones on the market, adept at managing a wide range of tasks with improved efficiency!
