Everything you need to know about The White Lotus Season 3
While the new season may not come out until 2025, The White Lotus is filming in Thailand's most exotic locations with new vacationers and hotel staff including BLAKCPINK's Lisa.
After the unexpected and dramatic ending to The White Lotus Season 2, fans want more!
We can only hope that the next instalment of HBO's Emmy-winning satire is equally, if not more, outrageously dramatic. After HBO announced the show's renewal and recent announcements regarding the show's release date, fans are eager to know what's in store for the White Lotus resort, its guests, and its staff.
The show gained much popularity ever since Season 1 was released back in July of 2021. The White Lotus has received a variety of awards, including the AACTA International Award for Best Comedy Series, the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress (Jennifer Coolidge), the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Casting, the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Drama Series, and many more.
In an interview with Variety, executive Vice President of HBO Programming and head of HBO drama series and films Francesca Orsi said, “Reflecting on The White Lotus' humble, run-and-gun origin as a contained pandemic production, it’s impossible not to be awestruck by how [the show's creator Mike White] orchestrated one of the buzziest and most critically acclaimed shows...We couldn’t be more thrilled to get the chance to collaborate on a third season together."
Even though the crew and cast are keeping things rather quiet regarding the production taking place in Thailand for Season 3, here's all we know about the long awaited new season of The White Lotus, and who's joining it.
Cast
As we know by now, each new season of The White Lotus starts fresh in a brand new paradise, with an (almost) brand new cast.
Previous cast members from Season 1, like Alexandra Daddario, Sydney Sweeney, and Jake Lacy, have voiced their interest in returning for another season. On April 19, it was announced that a familiar face will definitely be returning: Natasha Rothwell. Although she took a break from her role as Belinda for Season 2, she's back for the Thailand excursion.
Some brand-new cast members were also just officially announced. Leslie Bibb, Jason Isaacs, Parker Posey, Michelle Monaghan, Dom Hetrakul, Tayme Thapthimtong, Francesca Corney, Nicholas Duvernay, Arnas Fedaravičius, Dom Hetrakul, Christian Friedel, Morgana O'Reilly, Lek Patravadi, and Shalini Peiris are all confirmed to join the hotel next season.
And topping the list is K-Ppop legend BLACKPINK's Lisa will also be joining the cast for season 3. We're excited to see what these new characters have in store, and if one of them will possibly add to the mysterious and terrifying storyline.
Location
According to Variety, the new season will take place in Thailand. Since the first two seasons were shot at Four Seasons Hotels, it’s safe to assume this will hold true for Season 3. Thailand's Four Seasons Resorts span multiple terrains, ranging from scenic beaches and dense jungles to bustling cities. The official White Lotus Instagram page gave viewers a sneak peak of its current production a few weeks ago, and we couldn't be more excited to explore this brand new location.
Plot
The White Lotus's satirical approach to wealth and greed makes it an excellent and gripping binge-watch. During the behind-the-scenes segment after the final episode of Season 2, creator Mike White delved into what could be in store for the third season. “The first season kind of highlighted money, and then the second season is sex," he stated. "And I think the third season, it would be maybe a satirical and funny look at death and eastern religion and spirituality.” In a 2023 interview with Entertainment Weekly, White told viewers to expect something big—"It's going to be longer, bigger, crazier. I don't know what people will think, but I am super excited, so at least for my own barometer, that's a good thing," he said.
Recently, the show's newest cast member, Leslie Bibb, described her upcoming character as "complicated, strange, funny, scared, and complex" in an interview with Entertainment Tonight. Season 3's detailed plot remains a mystery, but with these descriptions we're sure to be entertained.
Release Date
While the release date of The White Lotus hasn't yet been announced, HBO revealed filming started in February 2024 in Thai islands Koh Samui and Phuket and the city of Bangkok. According to HBO's CEO Casey Bloys, the new predicted release date was pushed to 2025, as previous strikes in Hollywood have delayed production.
