The Unboxing Experience: Our first impression on the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra
We take a closer look at the new Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra smartphone to see if it lives up to its hype.
The hype was immense for the Samsung Galaxy S23 series during the recent Samsung Galaxy Unpacked event in London.
The flagship smartphone series under the Samsung umbrella, we are most excited about the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra - the device with the highest available specs for any Samsung phone to date.
And we are lucky enough to be given the chance to test it out to see if this state-of-the-art smartphone lives up to our expectations. So, here is the first of our Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra review series - "The Unboxing Experience".
THE PACKAGING
Continuing its efforts for eco-sustainability, the entire Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra package is made entirely of 100% recycled plastic and it comes in a slim, sleek black design, where it includes the phone itself (which also includes the S Pen), USB Type-C fast-charging cable, a SIM eject pin, the obligatory warranty, and quick start manual.
As it has been for a few years now, Samsung no longer includes the charger adapter in their package as a way to promote better recycling habits and reduce our impact on the environment. Existing Samsung users are encouraged to use their existing adapters to minimise wastage and unnecessary production.
Of course, new users can purchase their own charging adapter if needed separately at Samsung stores or the e-commerce store.
DESIGN AND AESTHETICS
For the new Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra, there is not much visible departure in the design language from its S22 predecessor. However, the new silhouette now has a more squared-off edge that provides a better grip and ergonomics for the user - something we welcome happily.
For what impressed us the most with the new phone is the choice of eight colours for the body - which is a first for the Galaxy S series. Aside from the four standard colours available (Green, Phantom Black, Lavender and Cream), Samsung also adds four additional online-exclusive colours (Lime, Red, Sky Blue and Graphite) to their e-commerce offerings.
PHOTOGRAPHY AND VIDEOGRAPHY
The camera performance of Samsung Galaxy S series has always been the star feature of the product that gets global recognition for its outstanding capabilities and for this new S23 Ultra flagship device, the main upgrade is the 200MP main camera lens, which provides better precision in capturing details in every shot.
Together with the 12MP ultra-wide angle lens, the 10MP telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom, and another 10MP telephoto camera with 10x optical zoom, the signature quad camera system does not disappoint.
Add that to improved videography features like enhanced HDR support, increased stability adjustment and faster autofocus, everyone can elevate their creative content game easily with Samsung.
PERFORMANCE AND HARDWARE
On first take, we might not have too much details to divulge on the overall performance of the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultre (that will come later in our full review).
However, based on our first impression, the battery lasting power of this new device has significantly improved from its S22 predecessors, even though it is still using the 5,000 mAh battery. On this, it is thanks to the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset which helps to enhance the phone's performance with less power consumption.
For the new Galaxy S23 series, Samsung's focus has been to enhance and elevate our experience, instead of creating new tech features that have sub-par performances. After all, why change something that is already good? Building a strong foundation and enhancing it step-by-step makes better sustainability as one of the top players in the smartphone industry.
So, stay tuned to our more detailed review of the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra smartphone, where we will break down the amazing new features of the phone and give you our verdict on whether this phone is worth the investment?
