Vans and Malaysian artist Bono Stellar take over the heart of KL city
From a skater brand to a cult icon, Vans has been empowering and representing the voice of a new generation of young artists. This 2021, Vans continues to celebrate youth and creativity as it launches the “These Projects Are Ads for Creativity” campaign. Aptly named, the campaign is unveiled as a digital gallery of art projects – from drawings to sculpture and much more – developed by young creatives around the world.
As part of the campaign, Vans and Kuala Lumpur-based artist Nawwar Shukriah Ali, mostly known as Bono Stellar (@nawwarshukriahali), present a visual art takeover of Masjid Jamek LRT station and the train car, featuring her kaleidoscopic and mesmerising works.
Inspired by Op Art and Kinetic Art, Bono plays with materials, colours and shadowplay, translating them into art installations that interact with the surroundings and resonates with the community.
“Just go with it, don’t think too much about it. It doesn’t need to be pretty, think about it more as a form of freedom and expression.”
