We caught up with Priscilla Ono as she talks everything about makeup, and how 2021 has been for the beauty powerhouse.
Fenty Beauty has been leading the charge for inclusivity and creativity ever since its launch in 2017. In 2020, it expanded its beauty universe with Fenty Skin, releasing a trio of unisex skincare essentials. In less than five years, it went from a player in the market to a beauty powerhouse, and Priscilla Ono has been instrumental in the phenomenal victory.
In conjunction with the launch of Liquid Killawatt Fluid Freestyle Highlighter, we caught up with Priscilla Ono as she talks about how 2021 has been for Fenty Beauty, and everything about makeup.
2020 and 2021 have been redefining the beauty industry. How has the year been and what changes have you seen in the industry?
This past year really gave us low maintenance, low fuss makeup looks. A lot of people have been working from home and wanted their makeup to be fresh faced, easy to apply, but still put together for video calls.

Where does Fenty Beauty find inspirations for the next formula and product development
Rihanna is the creative visionary behind the brand leading the product development process. She is obviously a super creative person, and has such a strong vision and attention to detail for every element of her brand.
You can really see that come through in the amazing textures and formulas, gorgeous shades and even the thoughtful packaging! She has been working in this industry for so long and knows exactly what she likes and what she doesn’t like. Fenty Beauty is really the best of the best based on her experience and passion for makeup.
How do you recommend using the new Liquid Killawatt for natural, everyday makeup looks?
Liquid Killawatt Fluid Freestyle Highlighter is actually a great product for natural, everyday makeup because it really gives you a fresh, natural radiance. The shimmer is superfine and the liquid formula makes it easy to blend.
For a natural, dewy, glow-from-within highlight, I just use my fingertips or a sponge to apply a light layer to the highpoints of my cheekbones, the inner corner of my eyes and along the brow bone.
What beauty look are you most excited about this season? And what are the must-have products we need to try?
The beauty look I’m really excited to see this season is pops of color in eye makeup. I’ve been into using Flypencil Pencil Longwear Eyeliners to build bright, bold graphic lines on the eyes. I have a few must-haves you need to try!
Cheeks Out Freestyle Cream Blush comes in really beautiful colors that blend easily into the skin for a subtle wash of color. Eaze Drop Blurring Skin Tint is a lightweight and long-lasting skin tint with light to medium coverage.

Can you briefly run us through the difference between powder, cream and liquid highlighter and how they are used?
It’s up to personal preference but in general people with oily skin tend to prefer a powder highlighter and people with dry skin may prefer a liquid or cream highlighter because of the way it blends into their skin.
The liquid-like Liquid Killawatt Fluid Freestyle Highlighter will also give you a more dewy finish and is very versatile whether you want to achieve an all over-glow or apply it in more targeted areas.
What are the most common mistakes you see people make while doing their makeup?
A common mistake I see a lot is applying too much bronzer. It is best to start light and subtly build up the color so that it looks very natural.
I also like to apply my bronzer using Fenty Beauty’s Cheek-Hugging Bronzer Brush, because the asymmetrical shape makes it easy to bronze the areas of your face where the sun would naturally hit.
Melting makeup is a real struggle in Malaysia due to the humid weather. What's your best hack for keeping the makeup fresh all day long?
The key to humidity resistant makeup is to apply a foundation base that is long wearing, set it with a powder and then make sure to blot throughout the day. Always start with a Primer – Pro Filt’r Instant Retouch Primer is a great go-to, or the Mattifying Primer is best if you have oily skin.
After applying foundation, your Pro Filt’r Soft Matte Foundation is going to apply more evenly and last all day. Pro Filt’r is sweat and humidity-resistant, but if you’re especially worried about the heat, I would set your makeup with Pro Filt’r Instant Retouch Setting Powder or Invisimatte Blotting Powder. This is going to eliminate any shine and hold your makeup in place.
Finally, you can use Invisimatte to touch up your makeup and remove any shine throughout the day.
