This is where you go for classic French cuisine with a laid-back twist.

"We serve traditional French cuisine – inspired by locally produced ingredients – to be appreciated in the most casual setting,” said Chef Irwin Chan of Brasserie 25.

Located in the new Hotel Stripes Kuala Lumpur, YTL Hotels’ first autograph hotel, Brasserie 25 welcomes you into a space of brick arcades, copper sputnik chandeliers and dark wooden door with an enviably swank kitchen and colour-coordinated furniture convey warmth and a rustic charm.

Classic with a laid-back touch, the restaurant brings a unique French dining experience to the KL foodie scene and here's what we thought of it.

Terrine
Terrine

If you have a penchant for foie gras, order the Terrine to start your gastronomic journey. Served in thick slabs, the decadently rich foie gras came with a caramelised exterior.

Spread a layer of the fig jam on the toasted brioche before topping it up with a chunk of foie gras, it tasted sublime – with a gentle smack of sweetness.

If that's not to your taste, the buttery Pâté et Rillettes makes a great choice to whet the appetite.

Bouillabaisse

Those familiar with bouillabaisse – a traditional Provencal fish stew, will know that it is a soup that gets its refreshing taste from seafood and tomatoes and vegetables such as onions, leeks and celeries.

The modest rendition of this dish by Chef Irwin Chan with codfish offered exactly that; it smelt and savoured like the summer.

Then, there's also the Confit De Canard where the crispy skinned duck leg sat on top of the truffe mashed potato.

While it is not unusual to nd yourself with a dried out duck con t, this was cooked to perfection and not at all greasy.

Doused with an earthy dressing, the meat was succulent, tender, mouth-watering, and perhaps a bit salty.

La Crème Brûlée

To cap it off, the La Crème Brûlée was just the right dessert to end a heavy meal such as this.

Mixing the burnt sugar crust with the aromatic, creamy yet light vanilla-infused custard made each bite a revelation.

And no, we are not exaggerating.

La Crème Brûlée

Staying true to the French style, you will realise that the food you get at Brasserie 25 is for people who live to eat instead of the other way around. That is us, and we’ll be back!
