Kim Jones presents his first live show for Fendi
Throughout the Spring/Summer 2022 runway shows, many designers have turned up the dial on their creations as a festive nod to the growing return to normalcy following the COVID-19 pandemic. Like several of his contemporaries, Kim Jones leaned into the themes and aesthetics of the '70s, particularly the Studio-54 era in New York City.
“This is my first live show for Fendi, and it’s a celebration,” said Jones in a statement.
Jones made his debut as Creative Director for Fendi Womenswear and Haute Couture in early 2021, beginning with the Spring/Summer 2021 Haute Couture collection. However, the return of a live audience (and its requisite hums and camera flashes) revamps the energy of a runway show. Mirroring that sentiment, Jones' latest designs for the Maison revitalize ready-to-wear fashion for the woman ready to drink in the pleasures of a world that was shut down for more than a year.
“Our woman has let loose a bit – she’s going out, dressing up. We’ve all been locked away for so long that I think that’s what we all need right now.”
The morning begins with strong steps, mastering yourself in pure white, confidence and power. A well-fitted women's suit, cropped blazer, blazer and even a gorgeous cut-out jumpsuit, paired with striking silver and gold jewelry, create an image of power.
Minimalist bras with metallic detailing, black and white patterned fur coats, voluminous kaftan coats give the contemporary woman a glamorous image. At lunch, the color tone gradually turns to soft and neutral. The most loved combination is a pleated leather skirt paired with knee-high gold boots for a classy look. Warm-toned long-sleeve turtlenecks and knee-high boots perfectly balance modern tastes with classic charm.
The afternoon becomes more vibrant when the woman put on the splendor of colors. Rich tassels, satins and sequins against a pastel background of pink, green, purple and gold in strapless gowns and skirts create an elegant picture. Continuing with spring colors, satin and trenchcoat designs redefine the boundaries of femininity.
Then when night falls, that woman transforms into a charming person in mysterious colors, reminiscent of the fervor of discos or proms. End the show in a deep brown dress and glittery black lace, turtleneck lace top, pleated pencil skirt, and more. Fendi offers the perfect, powerful collection of eras. Different period but very subtle for today's woman.
