Ferragamo Fall/Winter 2023 brings the ultimate minimalism to play
Minimalism is nothing new but with Maximillian Davis' creative direction, it becomes a whole new aesthetic.
Since the 1950s, Ferragamo has become an indispensable name in the wardrobe of Hollywood stars of the time - be it Audrey Hepburn or Marilyn Monroe - everyone needs a pair of shoes from the original Italian brand.
So it's not surprising that Maximillian Davis looks back to that golden age for this year's Fall/Winter 2023 collection. Blazers, whether men's or women's, play with angles: the shoulder or lapel, buttonhole or pocket clip are playful in their slant; dynamic varsity shirts are toned down to a respectable shape and solid texture with tweed.
Minimalism in Davis' eyes lies in the details: there's a sense of humour behind the figure. Although it may be a simple trench coat, with oversized sleeves held back by the belt, we see the innocence in Davis's Ferragamo.
The design language includes the following: a sophisticated suit, varsity from Ivy schools, a scuffed skirt, and a low collar for a cool summer day at sea.
Davis wanted to affirm Ferragamo's creative vision lies not only in the colour red but also in signature shapes, deconstructed proportions, and fine details. Red is the origin of Ferragamo but he is looking to find the intersection of heritage and forward-thinking, of a hundred years of history and a modern perspective.
Beautiful in detail, beautiful in body, beautiful in feeling. All of Davis' choices in Ferragamo create beauty in itself.
