Louis Vuitton's Autumn/Winter 2024 collection honours the past and future

A symphony of the past, the now and tomorrow.

At his show at the Cour Carrée du Louvre, Nicholas Ghesquière repeated his debut tradition of leaving a handwritten letter on the guest's seat. “This joy is still here. Ten years later, this evening is a new dawn,” it read. The Louis Vuitton Autumn/Winter 2024 show was a special one, particularly for Ghesquière, as it marked his 10th anniversary at Louis Vuitton.

Since Ghesquière's contract renewal was announced late last year, a new day has dawned. Even if this collection is a celebration of his stay so far, Ghesquière’s emphasis is on progression. Not content to rest on his laurels, Ghesquière approaches each new collection with the same enthusiasm as if it were his first. His dedication to both the history and the future of fashion was evident in this collection, which featured designs that paid homage to his revered vision from the past.

Taking cues from his A/W ’14 collection, the collection included contemporary cuts and silhouettes complemented by embellishments such as feathers, leather, and intricate prints. The many sheer pieces, the loose-fitting leather trousers, the oversized knits and the extravagant fur jackets all contribute to this. The futuristic geometric cuts and prints, together with the silver and ice blue looks, could be a glimpse into Ghesquière's vision for Louis Vuitton's future. Despite being the creative director of a French fashion brand, Ghesquière refuses to put French design in a box. Instead, he gives us a glimpse into a new vision of French fashion with each show.
