90 Years of Giorgio Armani in the archives of L'OFFICIEL
For over half a century, Giorgio Armani has been an undisputed protagonist of fashion. Revolutionizing contemporary custom, his work represents an elegant fusion between the classic and the deconstructed modern.
"If I look back, I must say that throughout my life there has always been only one common thread: I have never let go of even the smallest detail, I have never let anything out without first checking every single aspect. I never said: 'Who cares?,' even if that thing seemed insignificant to most."
It was 2015 and during a chat in his apartment in Milan, Giorgio Armani was giving me some secrets that had accompanied him throughout his long career and, above all, throughout his life. King George will turn 90 on July 11th, of which he spent almost 50 (the anniversary of the brand will be next year) revolutionizing contemporary style and building a global empire with a turnover of 2.35 billion euros. Leafing through the pages of L'OFFICIEL, the bond between the magazine, founded over 100 years ago, and the designer born in Piacenza and who has become the symbol of Made in Italy in the world, has been long and lasting. Beginning with a cover dedicated by L'OFFICIEL Paris to its first 25 years of activity to the coverage today, the stylist's path has been punctuated by great projects. The debut in couture with the Armani Privé collection. The opening of the Armani Hotels. And the inauguration of the Armani/Silos museum space in Milan, which the designer gave himself for his 40 years of activity, just to name a few.
It's a precise and faithful path to the founding aesthetic codes of the brand. "For me, loyalty is a value of fundamental importance whether we are talking about love or work... The things I care about passionately are long-lasting and deep-rooted: consistency has marked my entire life. This applies both on a working and creative level... I hate the contemporary idea of fashion where everything has to change every six months. Instead, I am proud to have managed to make my aesthetic vision unforgettable."
