Behind the scenes of the new Dior Vibe Bags
Creative Director Maria Grazia Chiuri blends inspiration from the sporting world with the essence of Christian Dior for the new creation.
The new Dior Vibe Bags are the brainchild of creative director Maria Grazia Chiuri, where her expertise in the world of leather goods blends with inspiration from the sporting world, refreshing the classic, two-handle bowling bag with sneaker codes.
Through the aid of wooden patterns, pieces are cut out, assembled, and sewn together individually in a display of Dior’s impeccable craftsmanship and attention to detail. To create its iconic rounded body, a layer of foam is inserted underneath, providing structure and emphasis to its emblematic curves.
Branded with the “Christian Dior” signature stripe, the rubber base – inspired by the soles of sneakers – is shaped and then accented with gilded feet. A personal touch comes in the form of a star that adorns the centre of the rubber base. Considered a lucky charm by Monsieur Dior, the elements of the Dior Vibe bags all come together in an elegant hybrid of heritage and contemporary sportswear.
The interior lining is added through the means of the reverse applique quilting technique and rubber zips; most notably, the zip-up exterior pocket that follows the graphic lines of the bag and lends a sporty elegance to its practicality.
The bags come in two silhouettes – Bowling and Hobo. These designs made their debut in several of the maison’s signature prints, including the seasonal Dior Etolie, as well as the classic, Dior Cannage stitching.
