To celebrate the Year of the Snake, Martell introduces a new bottle for the L'Or de Jean Martell.

With Lunar New Year celebrations just around the corner, Maison Martell unveils a L&rsquo;Or de Jean Martell Zodiac Edition conceived and crafted in tribute to the Year of the Snake. In this singular expression, ophidian qualities of the zodiac animal are expressed through rich and exquisite tasting nuances, as well as a custom crystal decanter by Baccarat.

Cellar Master Christophe Valtaud was inspired by N&uuml;wa, the Mother Goddess from Chinese mythology who spawned humankind and is often depicted with a serpentine body. Like most progenitor deities, N&uuml;wa represents family and abundance, so Valtaud chose to combine very old eaux-de-vie from past Years of the Snake with the original L&rsquo;Or de Jean Martell cognac. The result? A masterpiece blend of over 1,400 eaux-de-vie from the four finest Cognac terroirs, perfected over months of meticulous tasting and consideration.
L'Or de Jean Martell &mdash; Assemblage du Serpent presents as a light amber liquid with mahogany highlights. It opens with delicate notes of citrus and soft spices, revealing hints of mild tobacco and a mix of cedar and walnuts when swirled. Fruitier dimensions develop into rich nuances of candied fruit, fresh blackcurrant and quince marmalade. On the palate, it is full and velvety smooth &mdash; sensuous as a snake.
The precious blend is glorified in an exclusive Baccarat decanter, limited to 500 individually numbered examples. Shaped like a single drop of cognac, the crystal container is crowned by a snake-head stopper and rests atop a golden pedestal finely engraved with intricate scales, appearing like a piece of sculptural art.
