Hong Kong Fashion Fest 2024, a two-week grand event for fashionistas
The first Hong Kong Fashion Fest will be held from November 20 to December 4, 2024, showcasing fashion, creativity and cultural talent through a colorful lineup of programme.
The event is organised by the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and funded by the Cultural and Creative Industries Development Division of the Culture, Sports and Tourism Bureau, covering a number of events and projects by six major partner organisations - Hong Kong Design Institute, Hong Kong Fashion Designers Association, Clothing Industry Training Council, PMQ, Hong Kong Fashion Association and Hong Kong Design Centre - that will bring together global fashion, design and art elites to Hong Kong to enjoy the charm of creativity.
The highlights of the wonderful program are as follows:
The Fashion Union - A Platform to Celebrate the Beauty of Workwear
The event will be held at DX Design Centre in Sham Shui Po from November 20 to 27, marking the start of Hong Kong Fashion Fest. The event will explore the practicality and fashion charm of workwear in depth, including exhibitions, workshops and exchanges, showing the audience the precious history and multifaceted nature of workwear in a wide range of fashion fields, and exploring innovative ways to incorporate workwear elements into fashion design.
VIRTUOSE: The Artistry of Couture
"VIRTUOSE: The Artistry of Couture" will be held at The Henderson in Central on November 25, showcasing the haute couture works of four internationally renowned designers through fashion performances.
The fashion exhibition "Couture Reverie" will be held at Shop 6, G/F, New Hin Lee Building, 10 Ice House Street, Central from November 27 to December 4, creating a rare opportunity to appreciate the excellent craftsmanship of haute couture designers from around the world and allowing viewers to experience the poetic language of fashion. Four designers inlcuding French designer Charles de Vilmorin, who is known for his bold and expressive embroidery and bright colors, which give his haute couture works an artistic and avant-garde style; Mohamed Benchellal from the Netherlands, who is known for architectural design, and his flowing silhouettes and exquisite pleats show the profound heritage of Moroccan culture; Mainland designer Chen Caini, celebrated for his talent in combining traditional Chinese elements with modern Parisian aesthetics to create clothing works in which Eastern and Western aesthetics coexist harmoniously; and Hong Kong designer Guo Zifeng, who presents a sense of the future, using non-traditional materials and precise tailoring to create powerful surreal silhouettes.
Fashion Summit (Hong Kong) 2024
The "Fashion Summit (Hong Kong) 2024" with the theme of "Power Up Sustainable Fashion Business" will be held at the Hong Kong Palace Museum on November 26 to explore various ways to promote sustainable fashion busines and will also include three exclusive fashion shows held at Kai Tak AIRSIDE.
The first one will be held on November 27 with the theme of "Time Traveller", covering international fashion shows by designers from five countries and regions. Following that, there will be two fashion show showcasing Hong Kong young designers and Hong Kong brands respectively, which is focusinng on the theme "Capture the Time" and "Local Power", on November 28.
Fashion Summit (Hong Kong) 2024 will also open the "Fashion Summit Lifestyle Pop-up Shop" for the first time at GATE 33 Gallery in Kai Tak AIRSIDE for the entire month of November to encourage and support designers to run sustainable fashion businesses.
A Journeyof Rediscovery - 30 years of Shanghai Tang
To celebrate the brand’s 30th anniversary, Shanghai Tang and PMQ jointly present "The Past, Present and Future of Shanghai Tang” exhibition, between November 27 and December 15, where it revisits the brand’s history through archival pieces and contemporary designs. Chinese photographer Chen Man will host a panel discussion to talk about her varoious creative collaboration with Shanghai Tang throughout the years, from the classic promotional photos in 2012 to the design of the 2024 Fall/Winter collection, giving the audience the opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of the brand’s style evolution.
MOTIFX – Revitalizing Chinese Classical Patterns to Meet Modern Design
The "MOTIFX – Revitalizing Chinese Classical Patterns to Meet Modern Design" exhibition will be held at K11 MUSEA from November 28 to December 29, showcasing over 100 patterns and works created by young designers and artists, injecting new vitality into traditional aesthetics. The event includes a special discussion forum, inviting Professor Wu Haiyan, Shanghai Tang and other representatives to explore the fusion of tradition and innovation in depth, allowing the audience to experience the eternal charm of Chinese culture.
Fashion Asia Hong Kong 2024
Fashion Asia Hong Kong has once again become the fashion focal point in the city, focusing on the beauty of Asian design and craftsmanship. This year's "Fashion Challenges Forum" will be held at the St. Regis Hong Kong on November 29, inviting well-known speakers and heavyweight guests from the fashion industry, including Nicolas Morineaux, CEO of Lafayette Department Store China; Prabal Gurung, Vice Chairman of the Fashion Designers Association of America (CFDA); Ms. Lu Xiaolei, Executive Vice President of the Shanghai Fashion Design Association; Laura Weir, Creative Executive Director of Selfridges; and fashion designer Phillip Lim to discuss the importance of craftsmanship and digital innovation from market trends.
Theere will also be an exhibition to showcase the works of this year's top 10 Asian designers to wtach including Grace Ling, Juntae Kim, KWK by Kay Kwok, Markgong, Oude Waag, Raxxy, Ruohan, Setchu, Tanakadaisuke and Ya Yi.
In addition, the exhibition will also showcase the works of previous designers honoured, including Chenpeng, Christian Stone, Feng Chen Wang, Louis Shengtao Chen, pillings, Ponder.er, Pronounce, Reverie by Caroline Hú, Shuting Qiu and Windowsen. The exhibition is themed "SOUNDSTITCH", which perfectly combines fashion and music to bring visitors a profound multi-sensory experience.
