John Targon of Baja East is joining Marc Jacobs
John Targon of Baja East, an up and coming New York label, has just been hired at the new "creative director of contemporary" for Marc Jacobs (the label), according to Business of Fashion.
Starting 2nd February 2018, Targon will step into his role as “creative director of contemporary,” and is said to be bringing along his own team and might be causing layoffs within the Marc Jacobs design team.
Though there has been no official announcement of Jacobs leaving his eponymous label, this news comes after rumours swirled last summer about the designer’s discontent with the appointed executive director Sebastien Suhl, who was responsible for restructuring the company.
One does wonder, what will Marc's next step be?
So far, there are also no words on who will helm the creation of its ready-to-wear collection. However, it is said that John's hire is made to mark the revamp of a product category that falls at a lower price point.
John is not expected to be leaving Baja East, and will still be presenting a Fall 2018 collection, just not with the official NYFW calendar.
