Jojo presents the Salvatore Ferragamo Studio bag
Paul Andrew is an award-winning shoe designer and if the Ferragamo Studio Bag – his first signature handbag design for Salvatore Ferragamo – is any indication, he has his bag game on lock too.
For his debut collection as the brand’s Women’s Creative Director, he presented a vision that emphasised Ferragamo’s heritage of Italian luxury, but with a much-needed refresh to make it resonate in this modern age.
And who better to present the new silhouette to you than our very own L'Officiel ambassador Jojo Goh?
For A/W ’18, Andrew had images of movie stars like Katharine Hepburn and royals like The Crown’s Princess Margaret on his moodboard.
What he wanted to channel was their sense of glamour offset by their daring and rebellion. That translated into sophisticated long lines for the clothes – tailoring, capes, ponchos – in rich, earthy hues with accessories adding a clever, modernist touch.
The highlight from the accessories department is the Studio bag, inspired by the same codes that used to drive Mr Salvatore Ferragamo himself.
Where Mr Ferragamo shod the strong, beautiful women of the early 20th century, Andrew aims to do the same for the wardrobes of strong women of the 21st century.

On the new Studio Bag, Andrew says, "The more I explore the heritage of Salvatore Ferragamo, the more I discover how timelessly relevant his work remains.
"Ferragamo provided innovative and beautiful footwear solutions for a new breed of strong, creative, independent working women. For him, beauty and aesthetic appeal were nothing without usefulness and function.”
Taking this ethos of beauty and functionality to heart, he has created this classical handbag in three sizes.
Versatility was top of mind – the Studio bag can easily be taken to the boardroom or the classroom; on a school run or a weekend getaway.
The Ferragamo craftsmen have also toiled to create a leather bag that while sturdy and roomy enough for all the essentials, is also lightweight and supple with a nonchalant slouch.
In other words, sophistication without any of the stuffiness.
The handcrafted bag features the signature Gancini clasp in an elegant pale gold and is lined with studs on the bottom. Echoing the dusky hues of the clothes, the Studio comes in colours such as desert, navy and lipstick red.
Clients with a taste for the finer things in life will be able to spring for crocodile, ostrich and shearling versions.
Even more limited will be two special editions in glimmering silver and graphic colour blocks.
Only 95 pieces of each have been made, to celebrate the 95th anniversary of Mr Ferragamo’s very first studio, the Hollywood Boot Shop.
