Made in Italy: Gucci debuts eco-friendly material Demetra

The Gucci Basket, Gucci New Ace and Gucci Rhyton are the first models to employ the Demetra.

Gucci debuts Demetra, a revolutionary eco-friendly material entirely developed and manufactured in Gucci’s factory in Italy.

“In our 100th anniversary year, Demetra is a new category of material that encapsulates Gucci’s quality and aesthetic standards with our desire to innovate, leveraging our traditional skills and know-how to create for an evolving future,” shares Gucci’s President and CEO Marco Bizzarri on how Demetra plays in tune with what the house has envisioned for the future, and how the new material answers the needs of the animal-free solution.

As sustainable as it is versatile, Demetra has a soft, durable, pliable and resilient performance that makes it ideal for a wide range of product categories. Three never-seen-before sneakers - the Gucci Basket, Gucci New Ace and Gucci Rhyton – will be the first products to employ Demetra, seen on the upper and part of the linings.
