Michelle Yeoh reprises her legendary role for lululemon Lunar New Year campaign
Together with eight theatric dancers of "Wing Chun", Michelle Yeoh reprises her role as the legendary martial artist, Yim Wing Chun.
True fans of Michelle Yeoh will know that before Everything, Everywhere All At Once (2022) and Crazy Rich Asians (2018), she was famously known for her leading role as the martial artist Yim Wing Chun in 1994.
So when lululemon unveils its latest Lunar New Year campaign starring Michelle Yeoh and eight dancers from the theatrical dance "Wing Chun", it was truly a full-circle moment for her fans.
A captivating collaboration shot in the mountain settings of Jingning and Xiandu, "Be Spring" by lululemon is an enchanting short film that masterfully intertwines the artistry of Chinese martial arts, particularly Wing Chun, and the grace of dance, creating a visual ode to spring and the Year of the Dragon – a symbol of prosperity, renewal and fresh beginnings.
Michelle Yeoh, an Oscar-winning actress whose East-meets-West background echoes the cultural essence of the campaign, emphasizes the importance of wellbeing. Drawing from her extensive training in dance and martial arts, she encourages individuals to discover inner harmony by understanding their mind, body, and spirit.
“I’m delighted to be partnering with lululemon. Sports have always been an important element of my life, and I am committed to encouraging more people, especially younger generations, to benefit from sports and find balance in their own lives,” said Michelle Yeoh.
“Wing Chun holds a special place in my heart. Back in 1994, I starred in the movie ‘Wing Chun’, and thirty years later, I’m honoured to have the opportunity to collaborate with these professional dancers to re-interpret Wing Chun through the short film ‘Be Spring’. This is a concept that resonates with me deeply. Having our own inner spring all year round is our superpower.”
To complement the campaign, lululemon introduces a limited Lunar New Year capsule collection inspired by the intricate patterns of dragon scales.
Featuring a Satin Balloon-Sleeve Jacket and reimagined classics like Align™ and Metal Vent Tech, the collection seamlessly blends festive flair with versatility, offering a perfect wardrobe for both holiday celebrations and everyday wear.
As lululemon continues its advocacy for well-being, the Lunar New Year campaign, starring Michelle Yeoh, stands as a testament to the brand's dedication to inspiring balance and self-discovery.
The lululemon Lunar New Year capsule collection is now available at all lululemon stores including Pavilion KL, The Exchange TRX and KLCC.
