Self-Portrait starts scholarship at Central Saint Martins
If there's one thing that we at L'Officiel love most, it is definitely supporting young and emerging talent; and now, Han Chong of Self-Portrait is throwing in support for emerging fashion students at Central Saint Martins, as reported on BoF.
Scheduled to launch in November 2019, the Malaysian born and London based fashion designer will offer financial backing for five years at Central Saint Martins, one of the world's most coveted fashion schools.
For each year, Self-Portrait will offer to fund one student for the MA Fashion course until the year 2023.
Being a Central Saint Martins alumnus himself, designer Han Chong's desire to support emerging talents came from his own experience as a young designer who started in 2013.
He told BoF, "I’ve been through a lot [and made] mistakes… it’s a tough industry and often you only have a few chances. I want to set up a hub where we get talent from across the industry, so that when people have questions, we can be there for them."
On top of the funds, Han himself will be mentoring the chosen student throughout the programme on both design and business aspects of the fashion industry alongside Self-Portrait's key shareholders.
