Cover Story: Dr Qin Huilan knows no limit feat. Miu Miu

A big occasion came knocking when Dr Qin received an invitation on Instagram to walk the runway for the Miu Miu Autumn/Winter 2024 show in Paris. “Even days after receiving the invitation, I couldn’t shake the feeling that it might all be a dream,” she admits with gratitude. “I’m incredibly thankful to Miu Miu for giving me this unforgettable experience.” Nervous yet proud, Dr Qin confidently took her first steps on the runway, feeling accomplished in her own right.

Reflecting on a chance encounter last December, Dr Qin fondly recalls meeting Miuccia Prada. “I saw her from a distance when she visited Pradasphere II in Shanghai,” she reminisces. “During the fitting, I had the pleasure of seeing her again. Elegant and stylish as ever, I greeted her and expressed my admiration. She made my day by telling me she enjoyed seeing me dress in my Prada and Miu Miu outfits.” Introduced to the Italian labels by her son, Dr Qin shares that she’s most taken by their timeless designs which effortlessly blend surprising details with a subtle touch of restraint.

A true style icon, Dr Qin has morphed herself into a walking masterpiece, determined to make her mark on the fashion world. Whether striding down the catwalk or strolling along the sidewalk, Dr Qin exudes confidence, with mischief dancing in her eyes. With every move she makes, gazes are fixed, jaws drop and fashion critics are left awestruck. Like a skilled chef layering flavours, she masterfully combines prints and patterns to conjure up breathtaking ensembles. Her fashion sense is so sharp it can cut through the mundane, transforming any outfit into a work of art. “During my medical studies, I encountered many brightly coloured medications,” she says. “Perhaps due to my professional influence, I associate certain colours with pills or reagents, while others see them as flowers or fruits.”

Her Instagram game is unrivalled, surpassing even some of the most influential fashion influencers. Through persuasive and arty posts, she inspires her fans, leaving them yearning for more. “My son helped me create an Instagram account,” she says, and continues, “Not only do I share my outfits on Chinese social media, but they also reach a global audience through Instagram. It’s a way for me to learn about different styles from around the world.” Dr Qin affectionately refers to her son as her stylist, makeup artist, hairstylist, photographer and agent. Their bond strengthens them as a mother and son duo. “He has a unique and innovative aesthetic, at least in my eyes. I’ve always believed in him and been proud of his artistic talents.”
