Our May 2021 “Rule-breaker” issue brings much excitement and provocation with a myriad of stories, textual and visual, that express the many visions and attitudes that break with convention in and out of the world of luxury.

This month’s cover starring model Charlotte Tomas (@charlottetomas) looking nonchalant in Louis Vuitton is accompanied by a sweeping and striking sartorial story evoking women’s liberation.

Editor Tan Siok Hoon says, "In this exciting and provocative issue, we have put together diverse and disparate stories, both textual and visual, that express the many visions and attitudes that break with convention and are nonconformist in and out of the world of luxury. At L’Officiel Malaysia, we have always sought to champion diversity, audacity, inclusivity and the alternative; and thanks to the emergence of rule-breakers and individualists at the highest echelons of fashion, cinema and technology to name a few—innovation and creativity are thriving."

Headlining fashion’s rule-breakers is Gucci under the creative helm of Alessandro Michele and we showcase his latest in vintage prints to the GG Multicolour capsule and the Aria experiment with Balenciaga in Born Again, Colour Me Bad and The Melody Of Aria respectively.

On Keeping Up With..., we take a look at this season’s most salient accessory trends toe the line between practical and fun – from water bottles to statement hats!

Jewellery designers have been rocking the boat for more than a century as we spotlight three unforgettable mavericks across the decades in On A Rouge Trip.

Meanwhile, high watchmaking shows its penchant for the avant-garde in The Curious Case Of Time with a slew of nonconformist watch cases. Inspiring us with subversive Sixties beauty and glamour is Siren Call with extreme liner and ultra-glitter for the eyes.

Wrapping up the issue of rebels and renegades is How Do You Like Me Now with a courageous trio who are paving their own paths as queens of drag to break every rule in the book in their fight for the freedom to be their authentic selves.
