What does turning 40 mean to G-SHOCK?
G-SHOCK recently held an exhilarating celebration in Southeast Asia called “Shock The World G-SHOCK 40th Anniversary” to commemorate its incredible 40th birthday. The momentous occasion, which took place in the picturesque Potato Head Bali, spotlighted the essence of the brand as it continues to defy preconceived boundaries and redefine resilience in the world of horology.
During the event, we caught up with Mr Mazakazu Sugawa, GM and Head of Timepiece and Marketing Divisions at CASIO Singapore, to talk about the milestone as well as what’s so special about G-SHOCK watches. “It’s not easy for any kind of brand to still be going strong after 40 years... For G-SHOCK, I think that’s kind of evident that we are loved by a lot of fans, also the media, and also a lot of business partners who are supportive of G-SHOCK and CASIO. That’s really something to be proud of,” he said before sharing that conventional associations of G-SHOCK with resin-based rugged watches has given way to a more diverse range of materials, including metal and carbon – and irrespective of the materials, G-SHOCK watches still meet rigorous shock resistance standards, ensuring their durability.
