Habib reflects on the meaning of “Merdeka” with a new campaign

“Living with Covid-19 for almost two years should make us more appreciative of the word ‘independence’—as we were all forced to be in our ‘cocoons’ to curb the transmission of the virus. This has also given us time to grow, reflect and come out stronger after facing hardships together as a nation,” says Habib Group Executive Chairman Dato’ Sri Meer Habib in a statement.

“With the ramping of the National Vaccination program, we are starting to see economic sectors opening up and slowly but surely, getting our lives back on track. This will renew the appreciation of the meaning of independence and freedom, more than ever. So, as we move into the transition phase, we feel the butterfly is the best metaphor for what we’re going through as a nation,” he adds.

As part of its Merdeka campaign this year, Habib has collaborated with talented local artist Najib Bamadhaj for National Aspiration—an artwork that illustrates the journey Malaysians have been on for the past year—with the butterfly as the key element.

Not only that, the jeweller has also launched the Limited Edition 999 Gold Wafer Collection with unique designs of Malaysian butterfly species namely Rajah Brooke’s Birdwing, Long-Tailed Blue, Malay Lacewing, Paper Kite Butterfly and Emerald Swallowtail.

The gold wafers are joined by a new range of butterfly-inspired jewellery that’s available in 22K, 18K and 9K yellow, white or rose gold colour combinations. The delicate pieces come adorned with a variety of diamonds and gemstones settings.
