Interview: STAYC makes a stellar comeback with [YOUNG-LUV.COM]
With just 2 years in their belt, this 6-member K-pop girl group has shook the world with their "High Teen" concept and is now back with a second mini-album.
K-Pop is, without a doubt, dominating pop culture right now and within this music scene, new groups and new comebacks have been popping up every single week.
The latest hype on the charts is definitely STAYC (@stayc_highup), a six-member K-Pop girl group, who has just unveiled their latest comeback - a mini-album titled [YOUNG-LUV.COM].
Debuted in 2020, STAYC is one of the rising girl groups that has already won multiple music awards including Golden Disc Awards and Seoul Music Awards. They even won themselves a spot on the Billboard World Digital Song Chart.
For the [YOUNG-LUV.COM] mini-album, STAYC unveils its title song RUN2U with a colourful and energetic music video that is set to win the hearts of SWITHs, the group's fandom.
And in celebrating this comeback, read on for an interview with STAYC at their media showcase for [YOUNG-LUV.COM].
Congratulations on your new mini-album. Can you tell us a little bit about the concept behind [YOUNG-LUV.COM]?
STAYC: Yes, this is our 2nd mini album. We are back with [YOUNG-LUV.COM]. There are 6 tracks in total and they all depict different love stories. We are back with a more mature and intense spirit added to the original "teen-fresh" concept, so please your hopes high for us.
For this comeback, STAYC also launched a new website to promote the album. How is the experience?
It is not common to build a website (www.young-luv.com) under the same name, so we and the fans are both amused. As we uploaded the materials one by one, during the promotional period, SWITHs loved it with growing expectations.
For your title track RUN2U that also just debuted the MV, what is it about?
The title song RUN2U is filled with our strong desire to run to you to gain your love no matter what others say, based on our interpretation.
How was the experience shooting the MV? Are there any stories you can share?
There is a scene where we kick the sand and it looked beautiful in slow-motion when seen in the MV. So we had to try really hard to kick the sand to get the visual effect without being noticed as much as possible.
You've had great hits since your debut including ASAP and Stereotype. How do you feel as you launch this album?
Actually, we were under huge pressure and were very nervous with ASAP and Stereotype, but we are more confident this time as the songs fit right into our style.
We practised a lot and discussed in depth with the producer when we prepare for this album.
What are some of the things you learned or improved for this comeback?
We did our best to maximise our unique characteristics and learned what each of us can express the best.
STAYC is one of the leading 4th generation of K-pop girl groups and has won 10 different awards. What you do think is the tipping point of growth in this album?
There are genres that we never tried before in this album and we learned to develop our unique vocals through practice and we can now cover a wider range of genres.
You might feel it too when you listen to the new songs.
What were the biggest lessons you learned from your career so far that you brought into this comeback?
The producer told us that we should not limit ourselves to certain genres and when we completed the album, we realised we actually did it. So we learned that we can do it if we believe it ourselves.
