Hennessy X.O x Kim Jones is an unexpected collaboration that brings together couture and cognac.
Hennessy, the leader of cognac taps renowned British-born Artistic Director of Dior Men and Fendi, Kim Jones, for a special collaboration to mark its Hennessy X.O’s 150-year heritage.
Named the Hennessy X.O x Kim Jones collection, the collab is a fusion of craftsmanship and savoir-faire in cognac and couture featuring an X.O Masterpiece decanter, a limited-edition bottle, and in a first for Hennessy, a pair of sneakers called HNY Low.
Jones’s creative audacity comes in a form of 3D printing technology where he creates “a piece of bespoke couture for a bottle.” Finished by hand, the titanium casing creates an architectural veil for the refined cognac.
The maverick fashion designer shares on how technology has influenced his design, “In this particular, it influenced it a lot, because I was working with titanium for the first time. Technology is always something that we are looking at, and trying to expand where we have classic materials to add some newness to anything we do and any brand that I work on. In fabrications, technology changes all the time, especially in sportswear, so you have to really keep on top of it.”
This groundbreaking collaboration between two powerful forces adds a new layer to Hennessy’s half-three centuries of heritage of artisanal craftsmanship. “This collaboration appeals to connoisseurs, and connoisseurs come from any type of background, and it is just a matter of your level of taste. I'm always interested in seeing a variety of different types of people wearing what I do. I love seeing things worn by different people in different ways. I think Hennessy combines the same aspects and appeals to a similar sort of customer. I think that's why, when I was thinking, 'should I do it?', it made sense to me.”
Jones further elaborates, “Music and fashion go so hand in hand and have been for a huge time, but now with name checking in songs and even going back to Sister Sledge's "He's The Greatest Dancer" which my friend Nile Rogers wrote, they name-checked fashion in that, so this goes back to the '70s and probably even before. And I think people want to talk about their lives and write about them, so this collaboration encompasses a lot.”
Celebrating this momentous joint, a Hennessy X.O & Kim Jones Gallery will be held at Pavilion Bukit Jalil from 27 April to 7 May 2023 where you can explore more on the concept behind the collaboration and the ideation of cognac meets couture as well as how tradition meets modernity.
