Dynamic Hong Kong certainly has no lack of luxury hotels but even amid this competitive hospitality landscape, the freshly refurbished Lanson Place Causeway Bay is a standout as an oasis of calm.

Located smack in the vibrant Causeway Bay shopping and commercial district, this hotel and serviced residence reopened in March following an extensive two year overhaul. It first opened in 2005 as a subsidiary of Hong Kong-listed property developer Wing Tai Properties.

It is ideally located a six minute walk from the Causeway Bay MTR station, which provides excellent connectivity to landmarks including Victoria Harbour, Central, Tsim Tsa Tsui and the West Kowloon Cultural District. In addition, the surrounding neighbourhood is packed with traditional eateries, modern restaurants as well as a plethora of malls and shops to keep guests engaged throughout their stay.

At the helm of Lanson Place’s transformation is the award-winning French designer Pierre Yves-Rochon, who has worked on many of the world’s most coveted luxury hotels including Waldorf Astoria Beverly Hills, Four Seasons George V Paris and The St. Regis Rome.

Under his watch, the 188 key property comprises elegant rooms and suites in various layouts - including some which are built with compact kitchenettes for longer stays - has been reimagined with French-inspired designs in a colour palette of restrained soft tones.

Floor-to-ceiling windows ensure the spaces are illuminated with natural light through the day while stylish contemporary furnishings are given a touch of personal character through the addition of carefully sourced artworks and coffee table books, as well as several vintage chandeliers from the owner’s personal collection.

The result is a stylish yet homey retreat as a peaceful respite from the energy of Causeway Bay.

Rochon says, “Our renovation respects the DNA of this institution, which is a private, personal hotel, a  warm place, a sanctuary within the hustle and bustle of Hong Kong. The key principle has been to respect its soul, creating a timeless address whose character is inspired by nature.”

In fact, this ethos of hospitality begins even before one’s stay when guests are sent an extensive pillow menu so they may choose their favourites for a restful night’s sleep. Additionally, the rooms are fitted with thoughtful amenities including a Dyson hairdryer, Nespresso coffee machine and a Ruark Audio speaker to elevate one’s stay.

In the morning, breakfast at the elegant Salon Lanson is a highlight, with the chef offering excellent renditions of Hong Kong comfort fare including shrimp wanton noodle soup and congee. Later in the day, the Salon transitions into a sophisticated nightspot with cocktails and canapes from 5 to 7pm and an elevated menu of hearty bites for dinner.

The property’s other facilities include a complimentary laundry room equipped with modern washers and dryers as well as a gym and wellness area fitted with state-of-the-art Technogym gear and a small studio. Both are open 24 hours a day.

And for those who might be required to mix business with pleasure, check out the airy, French-inspired courtyard L’Orangerie on the ground floor. Here, lush green vegetation and orange trees evoke the atmosphere of a Mediterranean getaway, creating an inspiring spot for a discussion or an intimate tete-a-tete, whichever might be on your Hong Kong agenda.
