A Spanish love affair in Seville with Dior Cruise 2023
From the art of dance to equestrian tradition, Maria Grazia Chiuri pays homage to Spanish ferias with a majestic show in Plaza de España.
As we slowly assimilate back to normalcy with our lives post-pandemic, Dior has returned to remind us just how extravagant and majestic runway shows can be with its latest Cruise 2023 show at Seville.
Set inside Plaza de España, creative director Maria Grazia Chiuri charges in to celebrate Spanish history and culture with two gypsy flamenco stars, 40 dancers, and over 100 looks.
From the catwalk to the decor, seating and florals, everything was made to pay homage to the tradition, craft and female figures of this region of Spain.
One of the key figures that inspired Maria is Carmen Amaya, one of the most iconic Spanich Romani flamenco dancers in the history of the art form. Taking cues from her spirit of freedom and beauty of dance, Maria brings new heights to the collection with fiery and lavish silhouettes that references the classic flamenco silhouette.
Equestrian nodes also came through within the collection, which recalled the vivid memory of the Duchess of Alba, a legendary character, horseback riding with Jackie Kennedy.
Strong-willed and courageous, the structured and bold suits and two-pieces adds power to every step the models take on the brick pavements of Plaza de España.
Solidifying her love for androgynous and empowering designs, the Dior Cruise 2023 collection focuses on the savoir-faire of the Maison and Maria's love for local craftsman on the region she is inspired by.
Echoing Dior's sentiment to captivate global jetsets with its Cruise shows, this show was one that brings out everything Maria and Dior stand for - empowering, bold, timeless clothing that can be worn any where at any time.
