With fashion week going digital, Chanel (@chanelofficial) unveiled its latest haute couture designs in a short online film shot by Mikael Jansson.

This film stars Dutch model Van Rompaey and highly-acclaimed Adut Akech as they preview select looks from the collection. Unlike the previous Spring/Summer collection that reflected simplicity and rigour, creative director Virginie Viard opted for a sophisticated eccentricity this season.

“I was thinking about a punk princess coming out of ‘Le Palace’ at dawn,” says Virginie Viard. “With a taffeta dress, big hair, feathers and lots of jewelry."

This 30 piece couture collection is inspired by Karl Lagerfeld and his time at the legendary Paris nightclub 'Le Palace' as he was accompanied by sophisticated and eccentric women like Grace Jones and Paloma Picasso. Chanel's Fall-Winter 2020-2021 Haute Couture collection is defined by its desire for an alluring grandeur as certain pieces are matched with jewels from Chanel High Jewelry Collection.

Viard presents a nonchalant elegance in her pieces that ranges from short dresses with cinched waists, corolla skirts, black trouser suits adorned with diamond-like braiding and 19th Century French-inspired dresses, to Chanel's iconic tweed two-piece sets.

The collection features collaborators from Chanel’s embroidery partners Lesage, Atelier Montex, Lemarié, and Goossens. The black and charcoal grey tones that dominate the collection are highlighted by hints of pink in select looks like the tweed mid-length dress.

The tweed pieces are embellished with sequins, strass, stones and beads. Along with its classic tweed, Chanel's latest collection features painted lace on bolero jackets and a jacket with a smocked waist, styled with black suede boot trousers that conjures an ultra-rock romanticism visual. Viard blends romanticism and eccentricity to create a complex sophistication that evokes an alluring luxuriousness.

“For me, Haute Couture is romantic by its very essence. There is so much love in each one of these silhouettes,” says Viard.
