The stars are in their most astonishing eveningwear to celebrate some of the year's best performances.

After a year of staying home in our sweatpants and leggings, your favourite celebrities are finally stepping back onto the red carpet tonight for the 2021 Academy Awards. While there's such to be no shortage of luxe ensembles this evening, only so many stars can take home one of the coveted golden Oscar statues.

For the first time ever, two women, Emerald Fennell and Chloe Zhao, have been nominated for Best Director for their respective films Promising Young Woman and Nomadland, which are both up for Best Picture. Throughout the awards season, Zhao has collected numerous wins, including at the Golden Globes earlier this year. Netflix's Mank has also accumulated 10 nominations, including Best Picture, the most of any film this year, making it one to watch during tonight's ceremony. Other Best Picture nominees include Judas and the Black Messiah, Minari, Sound of Metal, The Trial of the Chicago 7, and The Father.

While we wait for the ceremony to begin, check out some of this year's best red carpet looks.
