Xie Chaoyu fronts our June/July 2019 "Art & Design" Issue
Good art is a talent. Good design is a skill. Half a year has come and gone, and L’Officiel Malaysia is back once again to showcase our annual Art and Design for our June/July ’19 issue fronted by cool Chinese beauty Xie Chaoyu (@xie.chaoyu), dressed in Louis Vuitton.
Shot by celebrated photographer Leslie Zhang, our cover spread titled "1989" captures the beauty of old Shanghai in a unique perspective.
Managing Editor Monica Mong says. "I believe Leslie’s traditional Chinese painting background has led to his unique and picturesque sense of composition and colour. Having grown up in eastern China, he presented the Chinese beauty with nostalgia and surrealism."
Currently, she is one of the hottest fashion faces from China, who only started on her modelling journey in Spring/Summer 2018 but almost instantly Xie Chaoyu shot to the top, scoring runway spots at Prada, Givenchy, Fendi and JW Anderson—all in her debut season.
Very soon, the industry’s most visionary photographers were clamouring to work with her. To date, she’s been photographed by establishment superstars like Tim Walker, Willy Vanderperre, Karim Sadli and Sølve Sundsbø as well as the brightest young image-makers of today such as Hanna Moon, Colin Dodgson, Zoe Ghertner, Leslie Zhang and Zeng Wu.
Part China doll, part alien beauty—her distinctive visage has graced the covers of many publications worldwide.
The fashion chameleon has also transformed herself into multiple characters for the industry’s biggest campaigns—from embodying the intellectual cool of Prada to bringing out the earthy romance of Moncler Genius Simone Rocha.
ONwards from our cover girl, dive right into the functional and fun trends of this transitional season in Pre- Fall 2019 before indulging in fashion’s wonderful dialogue with the art world
for Autumn/Winter 2019 in Affairs of The Art.
Meanwhile, in Testament of Youth, we got acquainted with young creatives with an unfiltered sense of self- expression dressing the part in Gucci’s Pre-Fall 2019 collection.
Jewellery houses, on the other hand, are formulating their own signatures with trailblazing craftmanship in The X Factor while those in search of high-design décor and luxe amenities can turn to Handmade Heavens for a new class of spa resorts that merge lush treatments with unparalleled architectural innovation in extraordinary locations.
Finally, we highlight six standout home collections spotted at this year’s Milan Design Week in Home Affairs.
