Omega’s vibrant take on the Seamaster Aqua Terra
The Swiss watch brand transforms the Seamaster Aqua Terra 150M collection with the transcending power of nature’s colour palette.
Omega has checked all the right boxes with the recent release of the Seamaster Aqua Terre 150M—just stopping short of stealing the spotlight from the triumphant star of the Omega Days 2022 showcase, the record-breaking Ultra Deep also from the Seamaster family.
For 2022, the transfiguration of the Aqua Terra collection has come as a delightful surprise with its stunning journey across a colourscape, inspired by the sea and land in an ode to the collection’s moniker.
The ten dials between the two case size variants are said to mirror a smooth and sublime transition of hues from the oceanic (Aqua or water) to the earthly (Terra or land).
For the larger 38 mm versions, the chromatic palette of three primary hues alongside a secondary and a neutral shade—comprising Atlantic Blue, Bay Green, Sandstone, Saffron and Terracotta—emanates a robust, resolute vibe.
Similarly for the 34 mm editions, the colourways of Sea Blue, Lagoon Green, Sandstone, Shell Pink and Lavender evoke a more gentle, ethereal sensibility. Interestingly, sandstone is the only common dial shade available in both case sizes.
Fashioned from brass, the dials eschew the Aqua Terra’s previous horizontal wave pattern and they now boast a magnificently lustrous finish, lacquered and sun-brushed from the centre. The new finishes have been executed with the brand’s newly acquired technology in PVD and CVD treatments—with the Terracotta model being the sole recipient of a CVD-coated dial.
A distinct difference setting the 38 mm and 34 mm renditions apart are their hour markers and hands, filled with white Super-LumiNova (blue emission). Plated with rhodium, the former’s hour marker indexes are diamond-brushed alongside facetted hour-minute and central seconds hands with diamond-polished sides and a brushed top.
In contrast, the latter’s hour markers come in the form of sailboat hull-shaped indexes, while the facetted, diamond-polished hour-minute hands and central seconds hands are executed in 18k white gold.
Both case size variations feature a round-shaped date window at 6 o’clock, as well as a domed front sapphire crystal that is scratch-resistant and anti-reflective.
The screw-in, polished-brushed case back bears an arabesque Geneva wave design, and the engravings of “AQUA TERRA ”and 150 m water resistance.
Not technically a tool or professional dive watch, the decidedly dressy Aqua Terre is destined for everyday wear. Case in point: its symmetrical case body in stainless steel with a pristine new fully polished finish imparts the right impression for work, play and literally every activity in between.
Looking effortlessly smart and stylish, it also wields Omega’s watchmaking excellence courtesy of a METAS-certified Co-Axial Master Chronometer Calibre 8800 precision movement with 3 levels of co-axial escapement, a Si14 balance spring, 15,000 gauss magnetic resistance, 25,200 A/h (3.5 Hz) frequency and more than 55-hour power reserve—all covered by a five-year international warranty.
Another update that needs to be touted is the new Aqua Terre’s masterfully redesigned stainless steel and three-link bracelet, featuring enhanced integration. In addition, the rounded links—with polished central links and brushed external links—hold the promise of added comfort and flexibility on the wrist.
Together with a butterfly clasp operated by the Omega patented screw-and-pin system with pushers on the cover, the beautiful Aqua Terra timepiece fits snugly and comfortably, be it beneath the shirt cuff or over a bulky diving suit, thanks to the versatile and convenient adjustment feature of the bracelet.
Pushing two decades since its debut, the vibrant and dynamic reinvention of the Aqua Terra 150M is a show of confidence in marking its milestone and charting its next-chapter trajectory in the luxury steel sports watch category.
