Back in 1953, French shoemaker Roger Vivier was designing the most daring silhouettes and whimsical motifs for the house of Dior. The ten-year collaboration has left an unforgettable mark on the style and aesthetic of the Maison that continue to influence it till today.

In a nod to Vivier’s creative heritage, Dior Artistic Director Maria Grazia Chiuri recreated three historic embroideries that take inspiration from the shoe designer’s archival drawings of mimosa flowers, coral and turquoise from the era he was crafting designs from a small workshop on the sixth floor of the Maison’s 30 Avenue Montaigne headquarters. His designs have been reinterpreted into pearls applied to black transparent mesh weave by Chiuri to showcase the maestro’s craftmanship.

For this season, the innovative textiles are juxtaposed onto a line-up of shoes and bags to reveal a contemporary sense of elegance. The Dior 62-22 pumps feature an adjustable strap in ultra-light neoprene; while the D-motion shoes partner a rubber sole and heel with the elegance  embroidered fishnet knee-highs; and the Dior Illusion evening sandals are jazzed up with a 10-cm cylindrical heel. Lastly, the Lady D-Joy bags and Mini Lady Dior bags alongside a haute couture clutch are also enhanced by the sophisticated Vivier-inspired elements in a fashionable stroke of creativity as re-envisioned by Chiuri.
