Bulgari has appointed Mary Katrantzou as Creative Director of Accessories and Leather Goods. The announcement arrives today 2 April 2024 and is characterized by an important precedent: the Greek designer is absolutely the first and only creative director of the jewelry house.

Katrantzou's connection with Bulgari dates back to 2019, when the Italian jewelry company lent her its precious necklaces, bracelets and earrings for a fashion show held at the Temple of Poseidon in Athens. The relationship between Katrantzou and the Roman brand deepened in 2021, when it designed a capsule collection of leather bags and jeweled minaudières inspired by the famous Serpenti motif: Mary Katrantzou x Bulgari .

Born in Greece and based in London since university, Katrantzou made a name for herself in the late 1990s, specializing in the then new technique of using digital prints. From the beginning he had a fascination with jewellery. Her graduation collection, purchased by British retailer Browns, featured hyper-realistic trompe l'oeil images of necklaces. The clothes of the subsequent collections would be compared to Fabergé eggs.

Bvlgari's rich cultural heritage and dual Greco-Roman roots played a fundamental role in my education as a designer. I have always drawn inspiration from Bulgari's aesthetic codes and syncretism, from his mastery of the use of colors and the intensity of his narrative. I am deeply honored to be the first Creative Director of Bulgari Accessories. A new chapter that I would like to elevate everyday life to an art form .” says Mary Katrantzou.

Mary's arrival as Creative Director of Accessories makes us very proud. Mary shares with Bulgari not only the Greek origins, but above all the search for excellence in the choice of materials and in the way they are transformed with a particular emphasis on craftsmanship, as well as a passionate love for colours. We are certain that what we are starting will be, thanks to his vision, a path full of successes ” declares Jean-Christophe Babin, CEO of Bulgari.

In this role, Mary Katrantzou will be responsible for the creative direction of Bulgari's leather goods and accessories, including the exclusive collection of handbags and one-of-a-kind High Jewelery clutches - unifying the high-end universe of the fashion house.
