Peter Copping Joins Lanvin As New Artistic Director
The British designer will officially step into his role in September 2024.
After Bruno Sialelli stepped back from his role as creative director of the menswear and womenswear collections for the Maison in April 2023, Lanvin has been without a strong designer at the helm. Now, renowned British designer Peter Copping has been appointed as the next artistic director of the house, marking the beginning of a new period for Lanvin and what is sure to be an enduring era of brilliant artistry and creativity for the Maison.
“Jeanne Lanvin was a visionary of her time whose interests and passions extended far beyond fashion, as do my own. I am extremely honored to have been chosen as Artistic Director of Lanvin and to be able, along with the atelier and teams, to write the next chapter for this iconic house“, Copping said.
A Central Saint Martins and Royal College of Art graduate, Copping began his career in the fashion industry with a solid foundation. Following the completion of his education, the designer moved on to Sonia Rykiel and then Louis Vuitton, where he spent a decade learning and innovating alongside Marc Jacobs. Copping stepped into his first directorial role at Nina Ricci, where he acted as the artistic lead for womenswear. Later, he moved to Oscar De La Renta as creative director and was thought to eventually take on the successor role following the founder's retirement.
Copping served as the Head of Couture as well as Head of VIP and Special Projects at Balenciaga until the Maison's Fall/Winter 2024 Haute Couture show, which marked his final project with the house.
“Lanvin Group is delighted to welcome Peter Copping to Lanvin. I am certain that Peter’s outstanding talent and capacity to reinterpret the codes of the Maison with curiosity and innovation make him the ideal candidate to drive success for Lanvin," said Eric Chan, CEO of Lanvin Group. "This new chapter for the house fits perfectly with our commitment to meeting the evolving needs and desires of our clients.“
